3. @Arrabista - but i write the most thorough specs and emails with every detail spelled out to my overseas suppliers!!! I could only shake my head and laugh at myself during your talk. Post-CNY Skype meetings booked and the trip overseas is making its way onto the calendar. Thanks for sharing all the valuable lessons.

The knowledge bombs dropped by @Arrabista on dealing with other cultures will save me 10's of dollars.

That alone was worth the trip!

Why did I have to see this at 3 a.m.? Now I'm going to have nightmares.

I survived my return journey. The last few hours were particularly difficult and I kept thinking how to overcome the travel difficulty next time. Although I'm in a very good shape, all sorts of ailments can be caused easily by slight disturbance of sleep & diet. I couldn't go out of the room on Saturday night. The very few people who espouse the same life philosophy are here and the only thing I could do was reading forum posts! @HackVenture happy to attend a meet-up held in Asia.

To me, the impact from the comment made at the end of Kenric's speech by MJ is most profound. "This is an easy business idea! How can you say you don't have any idea?" That really hit me hard. During my 3-hour stopover in LA, I kept thinking how to bring a unique fast food chain to my country. A moment ago, a specific pain point suddenly looked potentially simple/lucrative(?) to solve. If MJ/Vigilante/anyone could make more comments like that, I believe the impact of the presentation would be more powerful. Not shifting the responsibility. At the end of the day, everyone is responsible for his/her own s**t. But the respect the commentator commands can drive home the presenter's message.

Very happy to have finally met so many legends in person. This is a benevolent & supportive community, as long as you put in your own hard work & don't steal people's s**t :hilarious:

Btw, suggestions for the name tag in addition to @GIlman great idea: Differentiate parts (name/user name) by color. Reduce the length of the thread so people wouldn't notice that I've forgotten their name and I'm stealing a glance. Remove the quote so the extra space allows the font to be enlarged (quotes are not necessary to die-hard fans).

Edit: Double-sided to avoid "sorry I can't see your name on this side".

Thanks again for the opportunity to speak!

With so much knowledge and experience in the room its a great honor to present especially as many people have put businesses/jobs/families on hold to come out. Many came from great distances and at great expense and I hope I was able to provide value at some level.

I've attached my presentation as promised, feel free to reach out, attendee or not.

As a newcomer here, I thank everyone for their posts and pics.

I look forward to attending this.

But I don't know why so much was crammed into just two days. Three would be minimum. Four would be even better.
Many people go out for a week, attend the talks for the 2-3 days then hang out with their new and old friends having fun, talking shop and learning.

I do most of my learning away from the talks

I don't think my voice could take the beating of one more day. It was already completely hoarse and cracking by Saturday afternoon.

That being said, plenty of people were hanging out a day or two in advance, and after, the summit.

You'd have to be there to understand. It's never enough time. So many people to get to know and so much knowledge that each person has. There were 2 days of presentations [with HUGE value], but a lot of people got there early and stayed later just for the networking and relationship building.

Here comes the sappy post. As I’m writing this, it’s still hard to wrap my head around everything that has happened this past weekend. It went so fast, and it all feels so surreal. There are many, many memories I know we'll all cherish for years to come.

First, it goes without saying that the organizers did an incredible job in putting this event on. @
AllenCrawley , @Eskil , @MJ DeMarco , @Red , we all owe every last memory from this past weekend to you guys.
A resounding “THANK YOU” to you folks, as well as all the speakers involved.

Now that the dust has settled a bit, I'll attempt to catalogue these memories as best as possible to give the attendees I've interacted with something to remember, to publicly thank the individuals I've spoken with, and to open a window to the amazing possibilities that can happen if you decide to attend next year.

The goal was to get humbled and learn. It's very easy to think you're hot shit if you're a small-town shark amongst peers with a non-business mindset. I'll admit that even posting on the forum, I get nervous about tough love, despite knowing that it's what leads to growth. I don't know what made me think speaking to many of you in-person would make it any less intimidating…Nevertheless, I went.

Boy, if you don’t get the chance to talk shop with anyone back home, you’re in for a treat. Not only are the attendees incredibly knowledgeable, they are friendly and very open and willing to listen to your struggles.

On that note, I've been at capacity and behind ~2 weeks in production, and afraid to push on the gas for more sales.

Phil (@lowtek) and I met beforehand for coffee, and I have to thank him for grilling me on the business saying, paraphrasing: "I'd rather die fighting than die still. In the same way, I'd be more worried about being broke than being overwhelmed with work." In addition, he had great advice for allocating current staff.

I have to thank @Growth & Learn for taking the time to help me look at the mathematics behind making smart business decisions. What began as two people chilling out and decompressing became one of the best conversations I’ve had in a while.

In the same token, it was very good news getting confirmation that I'm on the right track, definitely have @Kung Fu Steve and @Gary to thank for that. I genuinely appreciate you two taking the time to listen to a young gun run his mouth :)

It was amazing to personally thank some of the people who’s content on the forum has been game-changing, if not life-changing. Special thanks to Jason (@eliquid) for getting me on track with his alignment post a few months back, and his PPC post, which has directly resulted in me more than doubling the business.

Now for the fun stuff...

I never expected some of the crazy adventures that were to be had, like getting packed like Sardines in the back of @Greg Rutkowski 's car with Gamee (@Water) James (@jimmeboy), and Ed (forum name?) while heading to hike. Gamee, Ed and I doing l33t p@rc0re on the trail while scratched and beaten by thornbushes and rocks. Getting lost on the trail and not giving the slightest damn, because taking the path less traveled has its own reward:

IMG_20180215_153756.jpg

It was great catching up with familiar faces from the Tampa, FL family (@Ronak, @Vigilante, @S. Brown, and @Arun Siva - who a year ago couldn't make it to the meetup).

At some point, the young guys in their early 20’s all ended up finding each other and creating a common bond. Special thanks to @PTP, @inputchip, and @Water for making this weekend a blast. You guys are awesome to hang with, and I hope we all stay in touch on our climb to the top.

There are many people who also had a part of this, either in passing conversation or some people who don’t come to mind at the moment. If I haven't mentioned your name, please get in touch. I still have a huge list of people I’m reaching out to individually to follow-up on the conversations we had.

Bottom line: there were many friendships made at this meetup, and many conversations in that room that simply can't be bought. I’ve had the unique privilege to meet some of the greatest minds in many industries, who were willing to chat over a drink or dinner simply because they truly care about pushing everyone. The people in this community are solid, principled individuals with incredible stories and genuine hearts, and I can’t thank them enough for their contributions here and in-person.

True. F*n. Story.

What amazing feedback from the summit. Wasn’t there, but great to be able to follow along on this thread and feel inspired to be there in the future. Thanks for posting the photos too.

Can I ask, was there anyone there who travelled from outside US?

Call me crazy, but @MJ DeMarco, would you ever consider being the guest of honour at a Meet up for Europe??

I’m here in Northern Ireland, and would love to organise something here, Belfast, Dublin, (maybe London), for local FLs. Plenty of cheap flights from rest of Europe to these locations.

What if the cost of tickets covered all your expenses?

One sure way to get @Andy Black to talk, bring a meetup to his doorstep

Also, @Steve_O did you know we have 2 of the top 10 golf courses in the world here in NI? Just saying

We had many people from Europe, as well as Australia I believe, Mexico and Canada as well!

Someone had told me there will be a Facebook group of sorts like there has been in the past years for the attendees, is this still going to happen this year?

I hope not.

One exists now, for all current and past attendees.

But please if I may say...

Contributing content (and moving users) to Mark Zuckerburg's platform (FACEBOOK) does NOT help the forum.
It does not help me.
And it does not help spread my message.

In some respects, my biggest competitor is Facebook.

When people want to move off the forum and onto Facebook, I look at it like someone walking into mom-and-pop burger shop and saying, "Hey, why don't we take our burgers and go to McDonalds?"

There's a reason why I spend all my time here, and not at Facebook.

Every year at the Summit I get a few dozen people who say to me, "You've changed my life, how can I return the favor!??"

It's very flattering and humbling. And yet my response is always the same. If you want to pay me back, simply:

  • Visit the forum.
  • Contribute.
  • Be active.
  • Share your stories, both failures and success.
  • And hopefully, win a big success story that we all can be proud of.
  • And finally, when you become a billionaire, don't forget the forum and the 2 books that helped tweak your mind... ;)

At the end of the day, Facebook is not a part of this equation.

The Fastlane Summit exists because of the forum, the forum doesn't exist because of the Summit.

Hope that makes sense.

That's very true. I just want a way to see all of the people who were there when I was there, is it possible maybe to make a tag that says 2018 summit attendee? Or do you have a list of everyone that was there? I honestly don't know majority of the forum tags of the people that I met..

If you are not willing to 'go to the ends of the Earth' (literally), then this may not be the summit for you?

@Magneto C came from Australia. Was it worth it, @Magneto C ?

If you look at a lot of the events that others put on that are in the thousands of dollars, I think this event has a significantly higher ROI especially at the fraction of the cost. It's 399 which honestly I feel like mj is making barely any money on if any... Definitely think our international brothers can say that it's well worth it.

We aren't, at least at a rate commensurate of the time invested. The payback is seeing everyone rejoice in their new knowledge, their new relationships, and their experience.

I'm yet to get the casino's bill so I'm holding my breath and hoping to be in the black. We should be OK if our estimates and budgets are within 10% of expected.

There's a great benefit to having it at the TSR casino, it's lively, lots of places to socialize, it's a destination, not a dive.

But the drawback of going here is the cost: Everything is terribly expensive (the A/V setup cost twice as much as if we actually bought the equipment ourselves) and the food is ungodly expensive, especially for the quality. Coffee was $60 a gallon. Anyone get sushi? Each tiny piece of sushi was $6 bucks, and 20 people into the line it was all gone. Lesson learned. Not complaining, just trying to relay how expensive the casino charges to have events here, so it is very difficult to keep the ticket cost under $500 bucks when every other conference charges $1K, and they don't even try to feed you.

Ultimately if I could have it my way, I'd opt for the huge buffet option for everyone for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which in itself, would cost more than 2X the cost of the ticket :wideyed:, and that's not even accounting for the other costs.

In years to come, this will by our (my) challenge, to keep a high standard of execution, but to keep the ticket from becoming a bro-marketing price ($1297!)

;)

I do agree here with contributing on the forum, but the facebook group that we have has never really competed with the forum. From what I've seen, there are posts that are just to that localized group, or an easy way to reach out for a referral or a suggestion or a review. All of the folks there still contribute here and in a much more meaningful way.

Not to mention, everyone has a challenge now to create a notable/gold thread which isn't going to wind up on facebook either.

Just extending a friendly invite to @MJ DeMarco, that’s all. People’s personal situations all differ, so I’m sure there are many over this direction who would appreciate the opportunity closer to home. After all, it might even benefit MJ.

I do agree with your statement though, if you want it bad enough you’ll be there.

If you look at a lot of the events that others put on that are in the thousands of dollars, I think this event has a significantly higher ROI especially at the fraction of the cost. There’s no doubting your comments.

Australia? That really is commendable. (Spent all of Dec in Sydney btw, absolutely fell in love with the place).
