Hey Everyone , I just finished reading the Fastlane Millionaire and I am quite amazed with it , it totally changed my mindset about how I look at my work and made me understand I can never achieve my dreams with my current work.I am 23 years old working as an Investment banker in Istanbul, but I feel like I dont want to do this for the rest of my life because its very exhausting and its a slow lane job and I dont think that I can achieve the kind of life I want. Even if I do make good money , I dont think I would have time to spend it , because of the long working hours.
So I decided to launch my own business , I actually thought about this before but every time I think about going on my own , I get demotivated because of where I live. I dont know maybe its going to sound silly but I feel like there is not much of opportunity here to be an entrepreneur and I think entrepreneurship opportunities only exists in US or other developed countries. How can I overcome this because this thought? Its really setting me back.

Honestly, there's upside and downside to all locations.

I'm Canadian and while we're pretty well developed and into ecommerce as a population we're still a very small population (about twice as many as Istanbul but still 10x less than the USA!). It would be nice to be in the USA but at the same time there's less competition up here for everything.

Also - there's the option to operate globally from any location on earth these days.

If you have an idea for a physical product you could import it into the USA, store it at a USA warehouse, and deliver it to USA customers, all while you live in Istanbul. I do this from Canada and fully service USA customers. I realize Canada is very close to the USA but in terms of how this "works" it wouldn't matter if I was anywhere on the planet, as long as I had internet access.

Something to consider that often gets overlooked as well is local opportunities. If you can help enough people around you, you can be pretty successful. What are the big-wigs in your country doing? Do you have any products in Istanbul that are cool/unique/valuable but aren't already in the USA (or the reverse) that you could export/import?

More than one way to skin a cat :)

Welcome!

So, what you're basically saying here is that there are no problems to be solved in Turkey?

I think entrepreneurship opportunities only exists in US or other developed countries. How can I overcome this because this thought? Its really setting me back.

Let me overcome for you. You're living in the west of Turkey.

From Wikipedia:

Countries in blue mean: Newly industrialized countries.

So, just like China, India, Brazil, and others, your country should be growing this exact moment. Opportunity should actually be everywhere...

Even more since you're living in the most developed part of Turkey.

The world is yours my man.

You are in a city with millions of people living there. Just by being local you can have a huge market, depending in what you want to create and what niche are you focusing on.

Now, regarding the aspect of how you overcome that belief that there isn't maybe a good place to be an entrepreneur, well, that comes down to references. Basically, I would bet that most successes you see out there come from people living in USA. On the other hand, you perceptions and beliefs around what is possible to do there is completely different. The best and fastest way for you to overcome that is to look for entrepreneurs, businesses and people who live in Istanbul and are doing very well, despite the fact they are in Turkey.

This is a very brief answer on purpose because I can see from where you are coming from (with those beliefs) and it will take some time to change that. But as I said, nothing better than having references.

I agree theres probably tons of opportunities in your country. However that's not a reason to stay there if you're not happy living in Istambul. If you think you can be more motivated somewhere else, go to that place.

I know there are tons of business opportunities where I live, but I hate living there because of other things ( weather, people being rude... ) so I plan on moving to another city in 2018.

I guess its because , most of the success stories I hear are from US and not from here , I believe this the biggest reason why I feel like this

I heard that the guy who made Greek yoghurt a success is actually Turkish (oh the irony).

US has probably the most entrepreneur-friendly system in the world. And don't forget that most entertainment comes from the US (including those stories but also visions and perceptions from filmmakers, I won't elaborate for the good order).

My country had a socialist government for decades and it's far from perfect for entrepreneurs. But as long you live in a "free" country and government doesn't make choices for you, you are in control for your own success. It might be more difficult for you but that should only make you stronger.
