This is just a quick shout out and Thank You to @MJ DeMarco.

In the day to day grind, it is not often enough that we take the time to slow down and be thankful for our blessings.

I have started several businesses, each of which demanded that I work my a$$ off. Some were successful, some were colossal failures.

All had a common theme. I worked like a madman to breathe life into them, and that only stopped the day I closed or sold them.

Until I read your book.

The concept of separating your time from your income was foreign to me, and seemed magical. The paradigm shift opened up doors that I didn't know existed before I read The Millionaire Fastlane . Marrying that concept with your commandment of SCALE meant that, once unlocked, I would be FREE.

Fast forward maybe 5 (?) years?

My wife was smiling at me yesterday. See, I decided to jump on a plane from Florida to Minnesota this week to tend to some business I had been putting off. So, a few days ago, I booked a flight. I have been bitching about anticipating the cold weather ever since. Until...

Until she pointed out to me that the average worker (which is MOST people) can't just jump on a plane on a whim, spend a week living at a Casino in Minnesota, and with the complete freedom to do what ever I need to do. What I want to do. What I can do because I am free.

It took me a bit over a year from when I first read the book to build my escape hatch, let it grow to the point where the income was sustainable, and cut the cord to the rest of my hard work time swap income streams.

Now, I am free. I could never go back to being a worker.

And I owe a debt of gratitude that I will never be able to repay to you for the concept of that freedom. See, you could have taken your millions, sat on a beach, and not chronicled it for others. You could have done what most douche bags do when they strike it rich... which is nothing. You could have NOT created this forum, and even today you could cash it out instead of spending time here daily for the peanuts it throws off.

But you didn't.

And because you didn't, I am FREE. I am free to travel. Free to watch E play in the ocean while workers work. Free to live. Free to follow what ever whims or dreams I come up with. (MJ, do me a favor and reread this paragraph slowly, because you would understand what many of the words within mean to me. Don't read over this paragraph quickly. It has eternal value for me.)

How do you repay that? You can't. It doesn't have a price tag. It doesn't have a monetary equivalency. When this place causes me to lose the few remaining hairs that I have on my head, I will look back on this thread. I will look back on this moment that I stopped to build a "thank you" marker to remember just exactly why I am here.

So thank you. I got from you a gift of freedom through execution of separating my time from my income, and I take for granted every single day that gift.

I appreciate you more than I state, and more than I will ever be able to repay.

And I am just one of thousands that your life work has affected in the same way.

I need to repost two things I posted on the inside in my progress thread...

This one from May:

Tears well up in my eyes as I think about what has happened in the past few months... I made [amounts mentioned on the inside] in February and EIGHT TIMES MORE just two months later. It's still hard to believe it. It's even harder to believe how much my mindset has changed.

I no longer feel any doubts that I will grow with each month and quickly reach five figures per month, then six figures and beyond. During the past few months I've moved from scarcity and unresourcefulness to abundance and resourcefulness. It's like living in an entirely different world. A world of possibilities, more growth, more joy, more value, and more opportunities to pay it forward. Life's better than ever before.

@MJ DeMarco, you have changed my life. Words can't describe how thankful I am for your book and this forum. It was your book that has helped me learn what real entrepreneurship is about and guided me in the right direction. It was your forum and its incredible members that have helped me learn even more and get extremely valuable business and mindset advice.

[amounts mentioned on the inside]/month is nowhere near "proper" Fastlane yet, but I've realized that your concept isn't about the money alone. It's also (if not primarily) about the mindset, about becoming a value creator and a blessing to other people through the products and services you provide to them. Now that I've finally understood it and developed more confidence in myself, I have no doubt I'll continue growing exponentially. And a byproduct of that is getting rich quickly.

And this, posted about three months later:

At the moment, my businesses generate enough income to let me live my lifestyle the way I want (maybe not in the most expensive countries in the world, but in the vast majority it's enough).

I can go and play tennis in the morning while everyone is at work. I can go on a long bike ride in the early afternoon and not have to worry about coming back at a specific hour. I can pay experienced teachers help me master the skills I've always wanted to learn (and that, by the way, makes me a better entrepreneur as well). I can stay late or get up early and it has no influence whatsoever on my business as I don't have any scheduled calls and other pressing issues. I can pack and go on a long trip whenever I want.

It's crazy to realize that I've finally achieved the goal I was struggling to achieve for about 7 years.

Obviously, that's not "true" financial independence for me yet (that would be when you had enough money to live off your money system), but it's a HUGE relief to know you've developed the skills and the mindset that will never again make you poor (since it's all in your head, not the business you run or the money you have).

Just like @Vigilante, there's no way I can ever repay it. It doesn't have a price tag. It's pure LIFE, something way more important than just having numbers displayed in your bank account.

I recently got into climbing. I went to a local climbing store to buy climbing gear. I engaged in a chat with the two employees there and we talked about climbing and sports in general. When they heard how many sports I practice on a daily basis (thanks to the freedom I have thanks to you, MJ), they asked me if I even work. I said something along the lines of, "I work at home on my own terms."

And that's precisely what I've always wanted to say (and most importantly, do) without feeling like an impostor barely getting by. I didn't even have to ask or worry about the price of the gear, so I guess my mission is 100% accomplished.

Thank you again, @MJ DeMarco. There's no way I can properly explain how much it all means to me and how much it has changed me as a person for the better.

Wow. I'm so happy (and proud) that you guys get it. Not only do you get it, but you are living it. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing this with me!! I honestly never knew... sure, I thought ya'll enjoyed the book and reinforced some existing thoughtlines, but I really didn't know it had this kind of gravity.

And because you didn't, I am FREE. I am free to travel. Free to watch E play in the ocean while workers work. Free to live. Free to follow what ever whims or dreams I come up with. Sometimes when people post on this forum, it's clear they didn't get the root message of TMF . Instead we see endless posts on "web businesses", "making millions", "money" or "lead generation" and I sometimes have to clench my jaw and close the browser. You got the message. And now you are living the message.

I too will need to revisit this thread often and remind myself why I am here, why I wrote TMF , and why I believe those open to the message need to hear it. I need this thread to teach me patience with those who didn't grasp the message and still think it's about becoming the next douche-bag millionaire driving around in a Lamborghini.

Folks-- reread the quoted message above-- that is why we are here.

Well, consider this another punch to the stomach to wake me up. Well said, @Vigilante, definitely something to reread a few times to stay the course when the motivation fails and the frustration sets in.

I am sitting at the Tampa airport right now, observing the hustle. Middle of the day on Tuesday. Mostly business people in business attire, rushing to get to the next meeting in the next city. Tonight, they will have dinner with someone they would never choose to have dinner with outside of the business obligation. Tomorrow morning, they will wake up early, tie their tie a few times in the dim light of the Holiday Inn mirror, and rush to the meeting in hopes of closing the deal that will pay their Christmas commissions. It's a true rat race... a gerbil wheel that seemingly has no end. They might even have a boat on the bay that they don't use as much as they would like to --- when would they have time to do that? Around and around and around they go. It's all we know. Our Dads did it, we do it, and our kids will do it. Around and around the wheel. Their boss is waiting for their call, and their assistants are messaging their smart phones with that day's crisis(es).

I have over 1,000,000 miles on Delta airlines. Mostly business. Nameless cities, faceless dinners, unmemorable hotels that I stayed in alone.

Separate.
Your.
Time.
From.
Your.
Income.

You want to thank @MJ DeMarco ?

LIVE IT. Make it happen. Escape the grind. Then let him know.

Build a CENTS escape hatch. Then let him know when you break through the other side.

He doesn't need any more fanboys. His currency - his life blood now is success stories.

Beyond that. Paying it forward. Once you get there, get other people there.

Bring this full circle. It's not enough to "like the book." He gets that every single day.

So what? I like the Dilbert cartoon book I read a few years ago. It didn't change my life.

What are you going to DO about it? That's where the new currency is. That is how you finish this.

That is what MJ is looking for.

I was having a conversation with my Wife the other day about this very subject. She said i was very lucky to be able to work from home, or go running after taking the kids to school, go back to bed if i want, etc etc etc. I corrected her immediately - luck doesn't come into the equation. I purposely set up my life like that. There's nothing lucky about it.

I also have to listen to my Father in law every weekend huffing and puffing after he's had his Sunday dinner about the fact that the weekend goes nowhere and he's dreading going back to work on the Monday.

Even on the radio a few weeks ago i heard the DJ say something which is got me really, really annoyed. He said his Monday or Tuesday morning had gone really quickly and then apologised to any listeners who's day hadn't! Ridiculous. Well thanks to MJ and his book i don't want my life to go faster, i want it to go slower so i can appreciate it more. In fact i want my life to become so great that sleeping becomes an inconvenience!

I'm actually glad that not all people get or are open to the Fast lane/freedom mindset. It's makes it much more enjoyable for those of us that do......

Great post!!
For me, just by changing my mindset to 'TMF ' mindset, I have changed my reality. I used to be a normal kid, and I still am, except now people listen to me! Every conversation is a new opportunity that presents a new problem. I have already seen the benefits, and can't see how I can/or will want to undo this. So thanks a lot MJ!

@ Vigilante,

Thank you for taking the time to stand back and appreciate where you've been & how MJ's book and this forum has helped change you.
Helped to change your midset, your income, your life & your outlook.
Helped to inspire others, encourage others & volunteer on this forum.

MJ's book sits always on my desk; I've reread it a few times but keep failing to go through with my own visions of self-sufficiency- why? I believe it's fear holding me back. I too have worked my butt off with business only to miss out either financially or with time away from my family. I was always raised to "work hard- if you haven't gotten what you want you're not working hard enough"- usually meaning physically harder, as we used to farm.
BUT success stories like yours make this "dream" of mine not just a dream but attainable. I've spoken to you on the phone! You're a real, live human being not just a faceless internet "get rich story" that may be entirely fictional.

Yes, time to accept the challenge & live it! Then, pay it forward, that's the goal.
So, I don't have a huge Rep Bank but what I have I'm now splitting between you & MJ...THANK YOU BOTH:embarrased:

I am FREE. I am free to travel. Free to watch E play in the ocean while workers work. Free to live. Free to follow what ever whims or dreams I come up with

Thanks for the reminder! Freedom is the ultimate gift, and I already have it! I am not rich, but I am free! Free to spend my time as I choose, free to work on what, where and how I want. Free to love and be loved by most wonderful family.

I need this thread to teach me patience with those who didn't grasp the message and still think it's about becoming the next douche-bag millionaire driving around in a Lamborghini.

Sometimes I get sidetracked.I become discontent.
I want the private jet, the helicopter. And I want it now.
Yes I know my dreams are different then most. I am not into the Lambo, because I am a pilot.
BUT I realize that my drive to acquire these toys will only take away the freedom I currently enjoy.
I have found my happiest moments are when I am producing, providing value.
Then all these "niceties", well, they are just a thank you gift, not a something to be unhappy about presently.

Thanks for the reminder @MJ DeMarco Vigilante
Summary

Freedom=#1
Happiness=
Providing value, producing; then nice toys, as a gift, can be enjoyed.
Unhappiness= Hell bent on getting that toy.

Much respect to Vig, what a solid post. I remembered thanking MJ after reading the book, it truly opened my eyes, it was right after the collapse of my 3 year old affiliate marketing business and it all made sense after that. Thanks again to MJ, the forum and of course the community, nothing but solid people around here who I've also had the privilege of meeting and continue to meet.

I read this on a day where I was forced to fly interstate for the day job.

Forced to be stuck in a taxi in traffic. Forced to be crammed in between strangers on a cramped metal missile. Forced to be away from home. Away from my fledgling business.

All this having been forced to compile a media report for the company at 6am. No control even over the time I sleep.

My day and this thread is a stark reminder of my tenuous grip on my time. This is no one's creation but my own. Changing it is no one's responsibility but my own.

Thanks MJ for making me understand the value of my time. And Vig for reminding me of it.

I also knew nothing of the work vs. time concept, or it was just a vague idea until I read MJ's book. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know what it would be like to taste the freedom of self employment which I have a job layoff to thank for. Thanks to MJ, you, and all the others on this forum, I will have to come back here in a few years and be able to thank you all in the same manner as what you've written about here.

LIVE IT. Make it happen. Escape the grind. Then let him know.

This thread really rings true for me. I currently have a great business, but I exchange a huge amount of my time for the money it generates (usually 6 days a week).

But since reading TMF I'm committed to changing that and everyday I take one more step towards removing myself from the business (automating, eliminating, delegating).

Prior to reading MJ's book I figured my only options were to just keep on slugging away 70 odd hours a week (because life wasn't meant to be easy right) or to sell up and move on (and probably go back to working for someone else).

Now I realise there are other options and I don't need to invest 5 or 6 days for a piddling 1 or 2 day return.

It's often said "the best revenge is living well" . . . . that may be true, but it also seems pretty clear the "best way to show MJ our gratitude is to live well".

So I'm working towards showing my gratitude in spades and have never been more motivated or excited about a set of goals in my life.

Man, this... This right here.

Most people with the right expertise and knowledge won't really help you out, they'll only continue to help themselves by misleading you and teaching you things which are just a Google search away. Yet, when I read TMF I remember thinking "man, this dude is the real deal." nothing but value. You can pretty much sense the sincerity and authenticity in the words of @MJ DeMarco with everything he writes. So glad you didn't pack up and vanish. Instead you stuck around and helped those who are in the same (or similar) shoes you were in. I want to do that some day.

The best things (to me) about TMF are the points made about TIME and FREEDOM. I remember reading it and breathing a sigh of relief once I realized I wasn't the only person on the planet who truly understood the importance of time and the desire for freedom. The only logical way to reach that level, for me, is to go fastlane and make enough income to allow me to enjoy freedom and time.

Big thanks to MJ again for sparking the fire, but also a big thanks to @Vigilante for doing the same, as well as several other members here who, mostly unknowingly, help me learn and grow.

THIS!
That is basically how I felt once I finally got that part in the book.

@MJ thank you! Without your book I'd still be working 12-16hour days at my job trying to get promoted, being totally blinded by the fact that my time was dictated by my job and my earning potential was capped.

Almost always my bedtime story :) maybe it's rubbing off on the guys either side of my room, ha.

But seriously, isn't time and freedom the most important. And my new goal. Would likely have been stuck working 80 hour weeks for the next 15 years and thinking I was making bank if not for MJ and his book.

Here we are just a week from Thanksgiving. Time to give thanks to those who are here to share knowledge!

At this stage in my life, my business involves driving around my local area to see customers, or going to the post office to deliver and pickup items to repair or drop off the finished ones. I'm still in the slowlane, but at the same time, I have freedom away from the rat race life of adhering to someone else's schedule. My business bank account sometimes resembles a heart attack patient's EKG monitor on life support bouncing up and down, but I always manage to cover my expenses and keep the business running. Yes, I have plenty to be thankful for.

I think I'll take part of a day early next week when my business slows down, and go to the airport and just hang out and watch people. I want to fully appreciate my life as it is now while I observe the rats in the rat race running on the treadmill to try to catch the carrot on the end of the stick. Running, seeing the carrot, but never catching it.

Maybe I need to look at these people hustling to and fro, then get deep in thought and think to myself "how can I come up with an idea, even something small that could make someone's life better?" How can I do something to fill a need, help ease the pain a bit.

Anyone here ever work in a corporate environment? Weird Al Yankovic has made a living out of parodying other artist's songs. Take a moment to go into this video "Mission Statement" at 3:56 and observe for a few moments this funny, but actually sad reality of the live's of millions of people:

My wish is for you all to have a happy Thanksgiving as we look forward to reaching out for our goals!

Thank you @MJ DeMarco & @Vigilante for everything. Many others on the forum have been huge influences in my life so far, but you two were the first who I related to the most and have helped shift my mindset the most.

It is difficult to put into words how much you've both done for me. Know this... soon, I will shake your hand and say, "thank you".

I read this thread and instantly thought of the my first post on the Fastlane forum:
I've read the Millionaire Fastlane . It filled in many gaps that weren't covered in the hundreds of wealth books that I've read before. My biggest take away was how important time is compared to everything else. Thanks!
^^ this statement still holds true.

The morning after I got back from the Toronto meetup I wrote a post that I was going to reply to the "Addicted to Passive Income" thread on the Inside. But now it seems fitting to add here:

Addicted to passive income…

Quite the statement.

Now put yourself in this situation. You’ve spent years working toward the Holy Grail… passive income.

In the beginning, you weren’t sure what you were doing with your time, but you knew that you’d eventually find light at the end of the tunnel.

You read the stories, you’ve heard the podcasts, and you know there’s a unique lifestyle that exists who very few will ever experience.

You can’t explain it, but there’s a small flame burning inside of you. You know that you have to press forward.

You make an attempt. You fail… Damn, that hurt.

You learned from your mistakes and give it another shot. Hmm… ouch.

Failure after failure, you start to become numb.

And then… it hits you.

You’re so numb that you don’t feel much of the struggle anymore. Yes, it’s still there, but only subtly.

As time goes on, you start to notice something…

Everything you’ve done throughout the years had meaning. You start to see the results add up.

Maybe you jumped on the bandwagon and wrote some kindle books. Maybe you decided to import products because that’s what seems to work for everyone else.

Regardless, you were out there, ready to fight, and threw as much as you could against the wall.

Then, you realize that everything you’ve done up until now started the foundation of a new life. A life that you could only see in your imagination. A life that seemed so far away that your chances of being the first person on Mars was more likely.

You’re still not living your ultimate vision. And, you still have a lot of hard work ahead of you.

But, your addiction is becoming a part of who you are. It’s hard to sleep more than six hours a night anymore. You can feel that small flame becoming a massive blow torch that you can point in any direction.

However, there’s still a part of you that knows your missing something.

What could it be?

As you go through your day to day routine, you come across a Fastlane meetup that’s set to happen in a few weeks.

Cool.

You decide to take a chance, drive to another country, and meet people who you’ve never met before because you’re confident that there are other real life people like you in the world, not just through a computer screen.

The next thing you know, you find yourself sitting at a table in a restaurant with some of the coolest people you’ve ever met.

They understand entrepreneurship, the Fastlane lifestyle, and have similar goals. It almost doesn’t feel real because you’ve never set down, in person, and had a conversation with other Fastlaners before.

You think… that’s what was missing… the real life interaction with other like minded people.

In the mix of conversation, someone mentions a website worth looking into.

So you take out your phone and there it is…

More orders.

Damn. That’s nice.

You just took another hit of passive income. Your addiction intensifies…

Some context:

I'm still learning, applying, and growing. And, I still trade a portion of my time for money in the form of freelance/consulting work.

The passive income I mention above still requires me to pack, ship, write, etc. And, it's not even close to what Vig and others on the forum are earning... not yet anyway ;)

However, when I wake up in the morning... there's orders... when I drive four hours to Toronto... there's orders... when I workout... there's orders... when I go to my nephews soccer banquet... there's orders...

Its enough to keep me away from a 9-5 job.

As MJ says in his book, "Why not get paid for the simple passage of time and make time work for you instead of against you?"
