Hey Fastlaners,
I’ve been following MJ DeMarco’s CENTS framework, and I’d love some brutally constructive feedback on a business I’m building.
A little background:
I’m a co-founder of a divorce mediation company, so I’ve seen firsthand how expensive, confusing, and emotionally exhausting divorce can be.
One recurring problem I’ve noticed is that many people enter the divorce process without understanding their finances, assets, debts, or the decisions they’ll need to make.
That led me to build Asterforth, a software platform designed to help people prepare for divorce before spending thousands of dollars on attorneys or mediators.
Think TurboTax, but for divorce preparation.
The business model:
The platform is being developed using AI-assisted tools, which allows me to keep initial development costs relatively low.
My goal is to build a scalable software company, not another business that requires me to personally serve every customer.
Here’s where I’d love your feedback:
I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has successfully built a B2C SaaS business or marketed products around sensitive life events.
I’m not looking for encouragement or compliments. I’d rather hear why this could fail now than discover it after spending significant time and money.
If this were your business, what would you do in the next 30 days to prove or disprove the opportunity?
Appreciate any insights.

Think TurboTax, but for divorce preparation.
The business model:
- Free version: Helps users begin organizing their divorce information.
- $49.99 premium version: A personalized divorce preparation report covering financial information, assets, debts, and important considerations.
- Long-term vision: Expand across all 50 states and potentially offer software solutions for divorce professionals.
The platform is being developed using AI-assisted tools, which allows me to keep initial development costs relatively low.
My goal is to build a scalable software company, not another business that requires me to personally serve every customer.
Here’s where I’d love your feedback:
- Need: Is divorce preparation a strong enough pain point that consumers would pay $49.99 for a personalized report?
- Marketing: If you were starting from zero, how would you acquire your first 100 paying customers without burning money on ads?
- Entry: With AI making software easier to build, how would you create a defensible competitive advantage?
- Monetization: Would you keep the freemium model, charge upfront, or try something completely different?
- Scale: Does this have the characteristics of a legitimate Fastlane business, or am I overlooking something fundamental?
