Background
Five years ago, I read The Millionaire Fastlane. It changed my view of entrepreneurship. The book clarified my thoughts on money and society. I thought investing would make me rich. I kept hearing, “All the rich do real estate,” plus talk of stocks and forex. TMF flipped that. It taught me to create and produce more.
I started ventures to help people:
- Real estate agency
- Selling Construction materials with a partner.
- Forex trading and my own algorithm.
- Freelance web design.
These ventures failed because:
- I didn’t stick around.
- I had no clear vision.
- My execution sucked even with a vision.
- I chased quick wins over long-term gains.
Freelance web design got me clients, but I hated the grind. Digital services seemed like an afterthought in my country. I felt undervalued.
I saw a pattern: I sold stuff I didn’t build. This hit me during web design. I realized I could help people sell stuff but got no respect for it. Why not build my own stuff? I looked for the best way to engineer it. Software pulled me in. I dove into programming my own SaaS and found the best framework for solo devs.
How I Got Into Programming
I tried learning Python for trading. My bot flopped. I got a somehow intro to coding but not enough for a web app or API. In October 2024, I started checking out Laravel.
I switched from WordPress before the drama. I looked for alternatives and found Laravel. I thought they were alike since both use PHP. Wrong. Laravel’s a full-on framework, not a no-code tool like WordPress.
To get Laravel, I tried learning PHP from a book. Its syntax was messy and tough. With no coding background, I bombed at the basics. Why not Python? I thought it was just for scraping, ML, and AI bot creation.
I ditched PHP and checked out Vue. It seemed better for frontend stuff. Then I found “batteries-included” frameworks: Laravel (PHP), Django (Python), Rails (Ruby). They changed how I see coding. I dove into Ruby on Rails and found The Odin Project, a solid curriculum for Rails and web dev. I brushed up on HTML and CSS, learned Git and JavaScript basics, and started Ruby.
I wanted to build a product to help people and share it. This started my software journey. I spotted market gaps for better products. I picked one idea, coded an MVP, and will launch soon. The app scratches my own itch.
