MJs books made me realise how true it is.

Yes, I can see how this can be perceived as "woo hoo" but when things are stripped down to value, from the simple and mundane, to the complex and important, it's quite elementary. The more people who enjoy your value, the more successful one will be.

Just had it happen to me with a dropshippper who is just ordering off of Sam's club online and shipping. The prices shifted on some energy drinks that I get that were about $18 per unit to $50 per unit from this guy.

I sort-of am, but not with all that bling all over it. I like the idea of not being snowed in, but given that I haven't seen more than about two inches of snow here in the last 20 years it's probably not worth the hassle for me. Also, not the most reliable thing in the world, even (or perhaps especially) newer ones.

I want to restore one and swap an electric drivetrain.

There's a TV series on over here (UK) called "Vintage Voltage", they did a conversion on a Series 2A Land Rover. It's not a great series (because they miss out all the useful stuff about how to do heating / ventilation and bang on about making motor and battery mounts in every single episode) but you might find it interesting.

It means they’re going to stop artificially propping up the financial markets with low interest rates and money printed to keep prices up.

Probably because everyone realizes how bad inflation is getting.

I wrote about monetary policy levers a while ago, will copy/paste. Same thing applies in Europe as I write about Canada.

Asset purchases are just another word for QE below.

The below is a year old!! =>

Monetary Policy​

Interest rate monetary policy

The Bank of Canada lowered interest rates to stimulate the economy as one of the first measures during the pandemic.

Interest rate monetary policy increases the value of investments, causes purchasing on credit to become more lucrative, and lowers the carrying cost of existing debt burden. Interest rate policy also inflates asset values and puts money in the hands of the wealthy, focused on incentivizing spending.

Unfortunately, there are limits. One, as we approach near zero-rates it becomes less effective.

And two, the wealthy might not spend the money and instead save or invest, which drives up the value of investments such as real estate.

Quantitative easing (“QE”) monetary policy

QE policy is for central banks to buy bonds and other financial instruments, giving investors cash in return. The Bank of Canada is continuing with large-scale purchases of at least $5 billion per week of Government of Canada bonds.

When the interest rates approach zero, the interest rate monetary policy becomes less effective. QE policy has the same effect at later stages. At some point the price for assets is too high and returns are too low to motivate spending.

Other than interest rate and QE, the Bank of Canada can do little to effectively motivate institutional buyers to spend.

“Helicopter money” monetary policy

“Helicopter money” is the idea to put money in the hands of those who need it most and will spend it. Think of the various stimulus packages we have seen for the individuals and businesses in Canada.

This policy can be incredibly effective, as people who receive such money are most in need and will spend it on living, thus increasing consumption and stimulating the economy.
