I lived with my boomer parents most of the time, if they are back home in Singapore, not traveling or visiting other relatives oversea.
There is practical reason because they don’t know internet banking, apps and IT stuffs, and they need people to take care of them when needed like going to hospital for a consultation or a small day surgery.
Even if I get married and do not live with them next time, living in close proximity (not too far away) in a preferred choice.
I enjoy the days when I am living alone, until I realised it’s not fun when you are alone at home with a 39 degree fever. I texted my two best buddies that I have taken medications and will go to sleep, just in case I don’t wake up or what in an extreme event.
I like the freedom of living alone but I think on a long term basis it’s not safe to live alone. You could just fell, knock on your head, become unconscious and no one knows to call an ambulance for you.
Living with nagging boomer parents help in building accountability too.
“Your younger cousin in IT makes more than you.”
“When are you dating? You are hanging out with boomers only? They aren’t going to get you a girlfriend.”
“All your gold coins and silver bars are too slow lying there useless. Look how much money we made buying TSMC shares…”
All these nags just slowly disappear as time goes. They become archived when they are no longer relevant.
They still nag me from time to time.
“You look like a butcher without a shirt. You need to lose some more fat.” This is the only thing they can find fault with me now.
The lesson I had is your performance is a prerequisite for having good relationships with others (so long you are not a selfish a**hole).
Perform, and be generous. Help others if you can. Good relationships will come naturally.
Even if logistically possible I also would not want to live with a bunch “ambitious young men” for two reasons.
(1) No complementary skillsets and resources for people of the same demographics and the same generation
(2)I personally don’t really trust single/unmarried dudes in their 20s and 30s (ironically I am one of them). This is the most arrogant and entitled generations who thinks they know the universes because they are born in the age of internet where all answers are a search away. Once they get older, went through a few shits in life, learnt to love, give and sacrifice they will become a better and more mature version of themselves.
