Where is the best place to learn about real estate?

I've been working on E-Biz for a while now and have decided it really isn't for me although I'm going to finish my current project. Real estate is something which I am much more interested in and I am in a particularly good position for real estate investment, however I don't have a very large knowledge of real estate. I'm looking at investment in rentals and I want to learn more but I'm not quite sure where. I was thinking about getting a job at an estate agents (I think you Americans call them real estate brokers) so that I can learn the local market and see deals coming in before anyone else. What other options are there for me to learn about real estate?
