OK, so those of you who were at the B&P meet-up know that the title of this thread was also the topic of my presentation. I am not going to post on the topic itself per say, but I did want to post my personal update.
During my presentation, I eluded to me working my way out of my JOB and onto the development of other things. By the end of the seminar, I had concluded that I needed to implement a plan and take action to reduce my hours and/or take a leave of absence. I have been inspired to take action from things I have learned, as well as using ideas that spawned from my own presentation.
So, I am on my way home from the seminar and wondering how I can convince my boss that I can no longer work the hours that I have been. I was hired part time and being assigned to work practically full time hours. I also work 1.25 hours away from home and carpool to get to work with from 1-3 additional people.
Today is my first day back to my JOB since the seminar. It was my turn to drive. Still at the fore front of my mind is what approach to use to confront my boss about my hours. Obviously, since I have been in PHX my carpool wants to know about the trip as well as catch me up with the JOB (I am the union chief steward too, so there is always stuff to catch up on).
Long story short - our entire work schedule has been changed. The new schedule has me scheduled working one day less a week and one of those days in a location that is only a 15 minute drive. It was exactly what I was planning to present to my boss for my JOB exit strategy!
It never ceases to amaze me how the powers that be (whatever they are for each of us) are able to continually present opportunities when they needed. I believe this is true in EVERY aspect of life. Opportunities are everywhere. All we have to do is look for them, recognize them and ACT on them.
