What features should I promise on the landing page?

I'm making a landing page for my start-up and I'm wondering if I should promise the main features that we aim to implement at some point in time (but will not be in the first MVP), or just the one main feature that will actually be offered in the MVP?

Why not both? You can position the main feature before the "coming soon" features, it could make for a more compelling offer.

Try to focus on the benefits instead of the features on the landing page though. People buy benefits, not features, so express aim to express that in your copy.

For each feature, you can imagine you're sitting in front of a stony faced target customer, and you tell them the features. They then ask, "So, what? Why should I care?" That's one method you can arrive at the benefits.

Maybe you can post a link to it here when it's done so others can review it as well?

The coming soon thing wasn't something I thought of, good shout!

Yeah I've read about this concept of benefit vs features before. This is an example from my actual landing page:

'Book With Confidence
We aim to implement a ratings & review system so that you feel confident when deciding which service provider to book.'

Would you say this passes the benefit vs features test?

On the surface, it looks pretty good! But, who's your target market? And can you tell a little bit more about the product? Without these, it'd be difficult to say wether it's really a benefit to your target market. The headline does sound a little vague and could probably target their pains more specifically, why should they care about booking confidently? And then, which service provider? It could probably be more specific to your target market's needs.

  1. USP - Unique Selling Point. What’s the goal of your landing page?
  2. Graphics. Make it aesthetically pleasant and attractive to grab your audience attention.
  3. Content. You need to find a golden mean when it comes to amount of content you’re putting on your landing page.
  4. Social proof - also, if applicable, you should add a few comments from your clients as a social proof.
  5. Call to action. What you want your audience to do on your landing page? Tell them, straight away. No guesswork.
