Credit cards are not bad if used responsibility. If you don't trust yourself (or whoever this post is directed towards) get a CC with like a $500 limit. Can't do too much damage with a small limit. Other things could be like financing smallish purchases under 2K like a TV, matress, furniture etc. Usually you can do interest free for a year or 18 months so you won't rack up any additional debt and your credit will improve if you make your payments every month on time.

Get a secured credit card.

One of the biggest things that improves credit is length of account time, the sooner you get a credit card, the better. And dont cancel old ones, just make sure they are clear. If they are not, increase the limit so your debt ratio is lower
