Hello all - I'm a newbie so please bear with me if I say something absurd, which I probably will.
I've had this idea floating around in my head for about a year, and have had a landing page up for a few months and not getting any traction at all. In a nutshell, my vision is a social network for student and independent filmmakers, streamlining the process of casting and staffing an indie project. I view it as a value arbitrage and inconvenience opportunity, as my own experience with these types of platforms often lead to incompetent and/or shady people. Many aspiring actors/editors/cinematographers, etc. start off on Craigslist and other sites where you really don't know anything about the people or film until you get there, and it's often a struggle to get paid and get credit and copy of your work.
So that's the basic abstract. My landing page is filmpatico.com. I've run MailCheat(Chimp) ads on Facebook and Instagram, and just finished a four-day Adwords campaign. I averaged a CTR of probably around 6-8%, and have gotten a total of two email sign-ups. I think one of the primary issues is that it's just a landing page and I can't communicate my grand vision (especially in regards to my planned payment and media transaction system) effectively without an actual, operational website, which I don't want to spend thousands to build if there's no need for my idea. However if I had received positive feedback and a decent amount of sign ups, I would have no problem putting in the time and money to get an actual site up and running.
My question is essentially how do I know when it's time to move on to something else? This is my own itch, and I'm fairly certain that if I were able to communicate what I am trying to build more effectively, that it would generate interest. I don't want to be the "idea guy" who just jumps from one thing to the next, but I also don't want to waste all my time on something that nobody wants or needs. It's possible my copy and squeeze page just sucks, of course, but I doubt that it's terrible enough that I could go from "no interest" to people pushing old ladies out of the way to sign up.
ANY feedback or advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you!
