I think 5 years of savings is plenty. Go for it, and see how you do. Even if it's just for 1 year to see if you can handle the lifestyle!

Free registration at the forum removes this block.For me the nature of your current job is a key factor. Freelancing is (generally) a lot more flexible and can be scaled up and down as required. Much different conversation if you're in a corporate career and the answer is 0% work or 100%.
Can you keep your top x% of clients (think 80/20) and use the additional time to start your fastlane venture?
