Like many people, I reckon starting a business Vs being an employee (or freelance) is the way to go. Also like many people: "What the f*ck do I do and where do I start!?"
I read enough books and articles to know I do not need to read more. It is time for action. But what actions? All I can do is take the step right in front of me, even if I do not know where I'm stepping and where exactly it is leading me.
Fears:
- Failing.
- Failing and having to go back to the slowlane, but with added years to the sentence.
- Accepting the slowlane's mediocre comfort and many years of servitude.
- Maybe I do not have what it takes.
- Making it and still be left unfulfilled / loosing my youth time / focusing on building wealth at the detriment of personal relationships (friends and family, which no amount of money can replace).
Strengths:
- Confidence in my capacities.
- Not afraid of hard work. Although I am happy to substitute it if I can.
- Know that my current situation needs changing.
- I genuinely want to give value to the world and be helpful (preferably in a way that I will enjoy).
Obstacles:
- Currently in Australia on a sponsored work visa. Not legally allowed to start a business and have set obtaining residency as a priority over starting a business. (That decision might need revisiting)
- Not knowing what to do. Lacking certainty of action.
- Above-mentioned fears.
Actions:
- Get clearer on my goals => Self-reflection / journaling, 1/5/10 year plan. Although I reckon it is not action, it will direct it.
- Check how to start in a "legally enough" way, without jeopardizing Australian residency.
=> Open company in France (I am French) while living in Australia?
No company at all but take first actions and worry about it only when absolutely necessary?
Consulting / Freelance as a middle step?
- List and rate all my ideas + Pick one to execute
89 total at this time, 11 answer my first pass + remote possibility criteria, CENTS criteria still to be determined.
Doesn't have to be an awesome idea. Just want to take action, do something, fail, learn, hopefully a bit of success (I'll be happy with just 1$ earned before the end of the year).
- Meet like-minded people
Hi @MattR82, @TryHardTriad, @seb_bne. I live in Brisbane. If you guys are still around and are keen to catch up for a cold beer, hikes, climbing, or hitting some balls at the driving range, I would be happy to meet you !
