Hey Everyone,
I’m building a lean and scalable language tutoring business (online only), and I’m looking for input — especially from anyone who’s worked in online education, service agencies, or cross-border setups.
The Concept (in short):
We match companies and private clients with freelance language tutors (English, German, French, etc.). Think Preply or italki, but we’re starting lean with:
The Set-up
All profit reinvested or used for valid expenses (travel, content creation, conferences, SaaS tools, etc.) — so no Estonian tax triggered.
What I’m Curious About:
Happy to answer questions or go into detail if someone’s interested.
We want to grow this smart, ethical, and flexible.
Thanks in advance

I’m building a lean and scalable language tutoring business (online only), and I’m looking for input — especially from anyone who’s worked in online education, service agencies, or cross-border setups.
The Concept (in short):
We match companies and private clients with freelance language tutors (English, German, French, etc.). Think Preply or italki, but we’re starting lean with:
- A provision model: we take a % commission from every lesson
- Fully remote (no office, no employees)
- Tutors work B2B — they invoice us
- No employer insurance obligations, no payroll complexity
- Core offering: 1:1 lessons + group courses
- Bonus: a charity arm where volunteer tutors teach underserved communities
The Set-up
- Estonian OÜ (e-residency, me and the co-funder are EU citizens and based in the EU)
- Clients pay the company
- Tutors invoice us (freelance, B2B)
- Tools: Google Workspace, Notion, Slack, Revolut Business, Zervant
- 10 group courses/month (10 students each @ €500)
- 100 private lessons/month @ €40
- ~€60k revenue
- ~€10k teacher cost
- ~€2k tools, ads, ops
- ~€48k net profit
All profit reinvested or used for valid expenses (travel, content creation, conferences, SaaS tools, etc.) — so no Estonian tax triggered.
What I’m Curious About:
- Has anyone here launched or scaled a lean education business like this?
- Any red flags or legal blind spots you’d worry about?
- Would you stick with the Estonian structure or base it in your home country?
- Thoughts on corporate sales vs individual clients?
- Is a commission-based tutoring model future-proof?
Happy to answer questions or go into detail if someone’s interested.
We want to grow this smart, ethical, and flexible.
Thanks in advance
