PARKED
So this is my first attempt at starting up a business, It will be an area that I am fairly unfamiliar with coming from a forestry background. I've researched a fair amount or so I believe on what it is i want to do, I have the Idea and the capital(i think) to start something fairly decent but the trouble is getting started I don't know where to!? I have no idea how to lay this question out so maybe ill make a list of what I think is the right way? Hopefully you kind folks can give me some pointers.
1.My product- I have decided what it is I will be trying to create and sell which will be clothing.
2.Sourcing the product this is where I am a little stuck I know of sites like alibaba, but never having used the site I am slightly dubious as to sending money to them. I have also read on the forums that a few people found luck at the "Canton Fair". Would this be worth checking out as a first timer or would the fair be for those more experienced and already operating at a large capacity? Any other places people know of would be much appreciated.
3.Demographic- I know the type of people I will be targeting and live close to a few places where I would be giving some samples out and potentially have some of them in the store very small store but moderately busy this should hopefully generate some word of mouth sales.
4.Marketing and Advertising- Now aside from the samples and the potential of having a few products in a small shop. I have a friend who works in marketing and studied it at University so I was hoping to utilize him for things like: Facebook, Instagram, Shopify, and of course a webpage(is this needed with shopify) like I say I have little experience in starting and operating a business so any useful hints here would be welcomed with open arms.
5.Has anybody been/Is in the clothing industry? If so how is it? is it an extremely competitive market that only the experienced should venture into?
Have I missed anything important or any steps those experienced in the business world would advise for/against?
Thanks for reading
Its nice having people around to talk to, and ask questions.
