Warning long read. Continue at your own risk! :smx9:
Well, firstly it wasn't Best Buy (Futureshop in Canada eh), but the store I went to has no outlets in the US but are owned by Best Buy.
Anyway, this is more a lesson in the importance of having knowledgeable support staff/customer service as well as proper inventory management (or lackthereof).
I have limited to no knowledge on computers (which is my fault and will change now after the nonsense I had to go through) and all I wanted to do was buy a computer and 2 monitors and sync the monitors together so that I can run multiple programs off of different screens.
I explain this to the first salesperson I encounter and show him the computer that I was looking at with the specs that I wanted and asked if that computer could run the two monitors. He says yes of course and that all required wires to do so are in their respective boxes, so I buy that and 1 monitor. I needed two monitors but they only had 1 in the size that I wanted (a 23 inch), so the salesperson goes to his computer terminal and tells me he sees 5 of those exact monitors for sale at another retail location of theirs... about 10 miles away.
Now 10 miles is nothing, but in a densely populated urban area that obviously takes a while to get to. Anyway, so we get there only to find out that while they do have five 23 inch monitors... they are the 3D kind that cost $400 each.... We wasted time, gas, and a little bit of sanity.
Then we go to yet another location another 10-15 miles away and buy the second 23 inch monitor that I needed.
So 3 stops to pick up my monitors and computer.
I get home and happily put together everything, but lo and behold, there no HDMI cables in the box.
So twice now in the span of a few hours I was given faulty information.
I angrily go back to the store and after explaining what I want and what i currently have to another salesperson, he gives me the required cables (another $30 out of pocket). This other salesperson expressely asked me what monitors and computer I had bought, and we walked right up to them and i showed him....
I go back home... and to my shock/amusement/dismay/disbelief, the monitors I have do not have the neccessary ports to hold the cables that I went back to purchase on my fourth visit.
So I pack up the computer and monitors and take them back explaining to yet another tech what I wanted. (this is my 6th stop at the same store in the same day) I get the manager this time and tell him what I'm trying to do, and he gets the lead tech, and we finally figure out what I need.
I had to buy another brand new set of monitors (24 inch this time) and a new computer once again.
Here's where another case of inventory management gone wrong happens. (this is the 6th or 7th issue I had that day.. maybe more but I stopped counting.)
Anyway, so we find the computer I need, and he understandably picks up one of the boxed computers right underneath the display one. (standard)
We get to the cash and I pay, and I for whatever reason happened to look over the bill as I was about to walk out with the new purchase. The tower I expected to pay $800 for was listed as $400.... long story short, the display computer and the unopened stock underneath it did not match... they were two completely different models...
At this point it was after 10pm (the store closed at 9pm, even the lights had more or less shut off by that time) I had a complete breakdown (crying and all haha).
I basically told him I'm not paying a penny over $1500 for the package (sticker price was between 2k-2.5k), and at the very least he got me under that price (after my breakdown of course).
We finally (on 7th try in 8 hours) rectify the situation (I HOPE!!!) and they're getting rid of the bloatware today or whatever the hell he was talking about and I should now have all required cables that should fit into all required ports, etc.
Left the store an hour and a half after it officially closed.
We encountered terrible customer service, inept salespeople, terrible inventory management, and all in all it was a terrible experience and I still don't have my computer. (they should be calling me today so I can pick it up).
I'm not one to blame everyone else, because I should at least have a basic knowledge of computers (I understand ram, rpm, gb, etc just not the intricate details) but having said that, your employees (no matter what company you run) should have the adequate knowledge needed to satisfy customers orders.. or at least they should know to defer to someone who does.
I know syncing monitors is not too common, but it's not that complicated either and these people should know what the hell they're talking about.
Like I said, terrible service + terrible inept support staff + disorganized inventory = terrible customer experience. I'll be needing to purchase a laptop as well soon because business is booming... and I know where I'm not going to buy it from...
