Hi Fastlaners,
I'm new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself and ask for advice. I've read the millionaire fastlane and am partway through unscripted . I'm in my early 20s and I just finished my junior year of college. My major is Industrial Engineering and I don't like college very much. I was supposed to get an internship this past summer but I had around 12 interviews for various sorts of jobs and I got rejected from all of them.
So now I'm going to work as a valet again this summer making around $20/hour. Something relevant that happened to me is that when I was 19 I made $100k in Gamestop which definitely changed my mindset about making money and made me more predisposed to trying to become fastlane. I have since lost the majority of that money but the memory has stayed with me for sure.
I'm not looking forward to going to college next year and potentially facing lots of competition to get a slowlane job again. I keep considering giving up and trying to fully embrace the fastlane but it seems risky.
As much as I'd like be successful like MJ where I go from limo driver or valet to a millionaire, I think that's not the easiest way to go about it. An idea I had was buying a duplex after I graduate and living in part of it and renting out the other part to save money on rent and build equity. My family already does this so it's not out of my wheelhouse to try.
Do you think I should continue to try to secure a higher paying job as an engineer or a white collar professional? I'd rather be making $30/hour than $20 but as we know this won't make me rich in the long run. I'm not really sure what I want to do professionally as well and I think that hurt me somewhat this last job cycle.
For anyone else whose been in a similar situation after college what did you decide to do? Have you started any fastlane businesses right out of college or did you get into a slowlane job first as a backup option in case things didn't work out or as a way to save money to start a business? Thanks
