Hi everyone,

I am currently having a product produced in China. The samples of the product are ready to be shipped, so I am looking at my options for shipping.

I have received quotes from UPS and FedEx at present.

For a 1 Lb box that is 9inx5in they are both charging $100 not including taxes, duties, and fees. Because the product is so light I was told my only option would be to go by air. I then received rates for when I need to ship the actual production pieces over, and I was quoted over $600 for 50 Lb not including duties, fees, and taxes.

What other cheaper options do I have? I have called DHL but you have to go through a registration process.

Thank you for your help!

contact a local shipping specialist like a freight forwarder. Or book a courier yourself who picks it up at the destination. And I believe a lot of people on this forum have a fedex, DHL or something similar account were the manufacturer can charge the shipping on. Try a forum search.

Check the local chinese post. I believe that they are similar like the post in Thailand and far cheaper then the big players. Air Mail from here takes around 10-20 days to the US and you pay for the weight which is around 10$ for 1lb.

It is cheaper to have your Chinese rep arrange shipping, but here is my favorite US FedEx rep.

Thanks I'll look into it. I do have a UPS and FedEx account, but shipping still seemed super expensive.

This sounds awesome. I started looking into Chinese post yesterday, I'll definitely look closer.

Thanks for the contact Kak. My Chinese rep did actually end up arranging the shipping for the samples through DHL. It ended up being half the cost of UPS and FedEx! But I definitely want to keep my options open for the production order.
