For all of my adult life I have annually called all of the subscription companies that I subscribe to and negotiate. I usually just call the retention department and act like I am going to cancel. If I spend a day a year doing this it saves me thousands.
If you have let this go for a few years.... You will save an enormous amount of money per year. The pricing creep they all use ads up. Loyal customer means nothing and they are absolutely getting the worst deals.
People who have been with ATT phone service since it was called fricking Cingular before some of you guys were born... Yeah those idiots are still paying $350 a month for a family plan.
Some things are non negotiable, but a lot of stuff is. I have done well with all of the following:
Cable bills. Internet bills. Satellite radio. Car insurance. Homeowners insurance. Cell phone service. Home security systems. Credit card annual fees. Interest rates. Even property taxes.
It is pretty much a given that I can do better once a year when I sit down and mess with them all.
Today I took Vivint home security from $52 per month to $24 per month just by calling and telling them I thought it was too expensive. I didn't even threaten to quit. I just kept saying "no that's still too expensive." Whatever, it took me 5 minutes to save $340 bucks a year.
What if I could hire someone that did this type of stuff for me every six months? Take a portion of the savings, but ALWAYS be my advocate and constantly working to get me better deals.
It would be a great low overhead service business.
And... If you take a portion of savings, say 25%, you can clean up pretty big on homeowners insurance and property taxes.
Someone should do this. It is an instant business.
