I was action faking for a long time.
I was always waiting for the perfect idea. Whatever idea I came up with, I would eventually eliminate it after finding a few flaws. This basically led me into a spiral of perfectionism, and I became complacent for a long period.
I tried a few ideas here and there, but I was never completely all in on any of them. It just led to half-assing everything.
Almost two weeks ago, I came across someone who was using a subdomain under a completely different main domain. That's when I had what I thought was a brilliant idea.
The idea was to basically rent out subdomains to people who want to host their personal portfolio websites or projects, mainly targeting tech people.
I believe my main target audience is student developers, developers, or anyone who has a personal portfolio website but doesn't want to break the bank buying a domain.
A lot of the time, either the domain matching your name is already taken by some dude from 2016, or someone has parked it and is reselling it for an absurd price. This leaves you with the option of buying some ugly-looking domain, which still costs a bit.
So instead, I bought a cool domain that people would actually love to have in their portfolio links. I had two options in mind, so I posted a poll on my Instagram story and bought the domain that got the most votes.
People can now get their own subdomain for roughly the price of a burger per year.
I loved this idea, and I didn't think it through too much because I knew that if I kept overthinking it, I would eventually find reasons not to do it. I just wanted to take some action for once. Action is better than inaction, so I went with it.
Within a week, I had built the entire platform, and now it's live.
It's been two days since launch. I've posted about it on LinkedIn and Twitter, but as of right now, I'm getting almost no engagement.
Of course, I knew this would happen because I've tried things like this before, but I was never fully committed to them. This time, however, I feel different. I'm giving it my all and actively posting about it. I'm even considering increasing the volume of my LinkedIn posts.
The biggest problem right now is marketing. I have absolutely no clue what to do.
I've been checking the admin dashboard, and I can see people signing up. However, when it comes to actually making a purchase, nobody seems to be converting.
I've also promoted it in various WhatsApp groups for entrepreneurs and received a few messages saying it's a great idea and that they like the concept. But again, no sales so far.
So that's where I'm stuck.
I don't know what I should be doing differently, how I should approach marketing, or how to turn these sign-ups and positive responses into actual paying customers.
One more thing: Everything is priced in Indian rupees (INR) as of now. Since I don't have business documentation, only signed up as an individual, my payment gateway provider currently only allows me to accept domestic payments.
Will look after ways of accepting international payment if I start getting Indian sales first lol.
my goal is getting atleast 5 sales (br
eak even) lol
