Room Remodel

I am beginning on remodeling my house over time. We built this house in 1991 ourselves and it has essentially remained the same since. My kid moved out so we are starting with her room first.

So, what does a state of the art house have these days that I need to include? I'm mainly talking about technology integration, wiring, media, energy conservation, etc.
