This guy is amazing, and his other speeches are just as good.

Haha, I was about to post this last night! Anyways it truly is a great speech. Was actually about to watch it again this morning just to reinforce it. I really see everyone benefitting from it because it doesn't only talk about procrastinators (me!) but just getting the important stuff done first along with delegating work to have more time. Common themes here!

I wonder about putting a vid cam on me during the day to see how many hours a day I waste on the puter, surfing rather than working. +++speed

Greg, here you go:

RescueTime | Free Time Management Software

RescueTime is a web-based time management and analytics tool for knowledge workers who want to be more productive.

Cool idea, but I always have a lot of different applications and sites open at any given time. How does RescueTime handle that?
RescueTime doesn't really care which applications you have open, but rather pays attention to which application or site is currently "in focus". In other words, we're measuring what's what you are paying attention to, not what you have open.

If you're ready to face the ugly truth. Personally I was too scared to read the reports it sent ;)

In case anyone is interested, I went through this video and make notes of all his important points.

Posted on my blog, since the formatting got messed up when I tried to post it here:

Time Management Tips by Randy Pausch

And here are the powerpoint and pdfs of the slides from the lecture.

Incase anyone missed it this is worth a watch

As posted above the slides from the lecture are available in PDF form here:

http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~robins/Randy/RandyPauschTimeManagement2007.pdf

It's 96 pages but features a lot of photos and minimal text on each page so it can be read quickly, I'd recommend you see it

A few useful things:
Goals
Avoid wasting time
Bosses & delegation
Specific skills and tools
Stress and procrastination

Action list
Action Items
1.Get a day-timer or PDA
2.Put your TODO list in priorityorder
3.Do a time journal, or count hours of TV
4.Make a note in your day-timer to revisit this talk in 30 days. Ask “What have I changed?”

2 Hours wasted daily due to:
Messy desk
Can’t find things
Miss appointments
Unprepared for meetings
Tired/unable to concentrate

Being successful doesn’t make you manage your time well.
Managing your time well makes you successful.

Goals, Priorities, and Planning
Why am I doing this? What is the goal?
Why will I succeed?
What happens if I chose not to do it?
Doing things right vs. doing the right things
100 things to do in my life

Planning
Failing to plan is planning to fail
Plan Each Day, Each Week, Each Semester
You can always change your plan, but only once you have one!

Other tidbits:

Bad time management = stress

Technology
Only use technology that’s worth it

Email tips:
If you reallywant something done, CC someone powerful.

Hopefully I can put some of these lessons into use

Just saw this yesterday and I really liked it a lot. I almost wasn't gonna watch when I saw how long it was, but I'm glad I did.

Also, thanks to who posted the pdf and powerpoints from it because the cameraman was kinda bad at showing certain slides when he was talking about them.

Maybe its already known around here, I didn't see it mentioned here, but I just read he died at the end July 2008. Almost exactly 1 year before my last post in this thread.

Was reading trivia about the new Star Trek movie and it mentioned he was an extra in it and died before the movie came out.

I remember him mentioning he didn't have much time left at the start of the video. Saw this was made November of 07
