You can't work more than 60 hours a week, every single week, while still making good decisions (working smart), unless you're an Elon Musk, though he's also doing that with the assistance of drugs.

Everyone is different, which is why I'll speak about myself: I've quit video games, porn/masturbation, and other small assorted bad habits. My main 'bad habit' is going out with friends, which usually involves drinking.
Outside of work, I go to the gym, read, and watch some netflix with my girlfriend. If you have 5 bad habits, you'll never achieve your goals. If you have 0 - maybe? But life is meant to be lived in such a way that you can let go of it when your time has come. I can say I've let go of many of my bad habits to the extent that I have little to no desire to ever touch them, but to cut out drinking with good friends and family - I'm not there yet.

Why can't you work more than 60 hours a week while making good decisions?

Who says? And who says that limit is 60 hours. rather than 40, 80, or 100?

I don't think everyone needs an outlet. I think we all establish baselines based on past conditioning, preconceived notions, etc. I would argue that what you're putting forth here is just that.

I would like to hear any arguments as to why a "simple walk in nature" or meditating for 20 minutes isn't a worthwhile outlet as opposed to purposefully taking oneself down a poisonous route that you then need to walk back.

I agree with this and there might be an argument that giving up "homeostasis" is how you achieve the arduous climb up - whether that's long grinds, coffee, alcohol, self-induced stress, etc. Side note: isn't arduous a great word?
