Questions regarding starting and marketing a brand

My name is Giancarlo.

I read alot on the topic of importing using AliExpress or Alibaba etc. I was interested and started looking for items that I particularly saw being sold on Instagram. I saw that many jewelers from my area were selling some things I found on Alibaba but just rebranding them under their own name. I was always curious how they managed to make money selling these things and where they got these from. One particular jeweler, who is very well off, claims that some of these items are being manufactured here in New York, when I found the same exact things on Alibaba. Coincidence?

I also found that a good friend of mine, who is also a jeweler, and very well known by many celebs, got a few of his "foundation" pieces such as a an owl, or skull, from Alibaba. He turned a $10 piece into a multi-thousand dollar piece by coating it (I think) and then inserting diamonds all over it.

I'm really interested in doing jewelry and was curious how I could market these things to Instagram effectively. I'm really not that good at it and I've been trying to market several ideas many times and for some reason, regardless of all the things I do to try to get people to react, nothing seems to work.

For example, I told users that if they would let me know which item they would pre-order, they would have a chance at winning one when it was available. I got a few web pages views from the link but I got no feedback in the surveys. I know this is not a "need" that can be filled but i'd like to add my own unique spin on some of this stuff because I know that there are some things out there people may like and want to buy.

I'd appreciate any feedback and constructive criticism and there is definitely a few points you can critique here as a good amount of you have way more experience than I do. Thank you very much in advance!
