Greetings to all from Columbus Ohio!
I am really excited to be a part of this community.
Here is a little bit about myself:
The topics that I can contribute to the forum on would be as follows:
My Motivation for getting to the Fastlane:
I never felt like the corporate world was right for me in the first place. However, like many college grads I felt like I had to do the responsible thing and get a job. There are many things I could list that bother me about the corporate world that do provide motivation to leave, but the truth is I'm the one who decided to join it. It doesn't feel right to sit around and bash the path that I chose. Instead, I am going to take action to change my course.
My main motivation for starting the process of joining the Fastlane would to eventually have the time freedom and financial freedom to spend as much time as possible with my wife and son. My son was born at 24 weeks at 1lb 8oz. He spent his first 5 months in the NICU unit, and my wife and I have an all new perspective on just how fragile life is. My son is now 9 months old and doing great, but it obviously is a sore point for me to leave him every morning only to return 9 or 10 hours later.
Next Steps:
My wife and I have decided that we are going to relocate to another city and state in order get a new start and also enjoy some better weather. We have some friends located where we are looking, and I will begin networking with my contacts very soon. We're shooting to move sometime during the summer. If anyone has any insight on relocating to another state and looking for opportunities in a new market, I'd love to hear them.
Anyway, thank you MJ for providing this forum and also for telling the truth about following the plan of many of the other gurus.
I'm looking forward to interacting with everyone. Thanks again!

Here is a little bit about myself:
- Married with a 9 month old son (more on that to come).
- I currently work as a Manager in IT for a large insurance company that I have worked for since college graduation.
- Although I am grateful for the job, I never wanted to go into the corporate world to begin with but followed the slow lane. I have had 6 promotions in 6 years, but my desire to leave the corporate world is at a fevered pitch and never been stronger. I've realized that my promotions gave me a false sense of "making it" due to the acclaim I receive from family and friends when they occur. However, I've realized that a 10K-20K raise every year still puts me in the slow lane. Especially when I think about all of the time and effort I put in to getting them!
- I have taken both action faking steps (buying biz cards, a domain name, etc. ), and action taking steps in the past when it comes to small business (I've created a product and tested on Etsy, etc.)
The topics that I can contribute to the forum on would be as follows:
- Managing team members
- Personal finance discussions
- The implications of not staying fit and eating right on your energy
- Marriage and Business
