Link didn't work for me. edit: tried again, must of been my internet.

Seems like it will be interesting though. I'm no poker pro but from the tourny's I've played Idk if I could handle it. So stressful, I'm sure they get use to it but the amount surprised me. Being in a game being chip leader and knowing one wrong move can completely turn a game.

I'm in the process of closing all of my poker accounts. (All 15 haha. I have one on every major site).

While I had a decent win-rate, I realized that the amount of effort needed to be making 6-7 figures is not worth it to me, as there are other industries where the same amount of effort and study can make you 8-9-10 figures.

Still, I've been bitten by the anticipation bug on 2p2 so I'll definitely be checking out the documentary, (I just won't be playing anymore). Thanks for the link!

I like what the guy said at 9minutes, (guy with white shirt and brown police shirt). I think hes right, a lot of really good players who could be better than the more elite just don't want to take the risk of a 5-10k buy-in. Some of the rich poker players took that risk and it paid off.

Really?

Most really good players don't move higher because the heightened level of competition erodes their winrate, so by playing lower with less skilled players, they make more money.

I know of no poker player who would turn down playing a rich fish at 10,000NL (provided they're properly rolled or staked), but no sane poker player would play Phil Ivey (or someone of his caliber) heads up for that same amount.

That's why you see 8 or 9 players seated at a table, but not playing (look at the ps lobby if you don't believe me), because they have no competitive advantage over their opponents at that level.

What's strange is these guys are probably some of the smartest people in the world yet they're so scared that if poker becomes unprofitable they'll have to apply for an entry-level job - even though they have millions and could easily go into entrepreneurship/investing.

They would have to.

You can't put 'Poker pro for 7 years' on a resume.

What they know is poker. Going into investing/entrepreneurship when they have no experience or knowledge of either is foolish.

Not all pros are as rich as you think ;) For every 1 wealthy pro $1M+, there are 100+ $40-$100K/year grinders.

Check any PTR graph and you'll find this to be true.

At least 70% of the players interviewed are famous nosebleed stakes players
And that demographic describes 0.01% of the poker playing population.
Err... yes ?
I'm not sure what you want me to say :/

Did you know the online poker shutdown was coming? :)

Professional poker players will not be applying for entry-level jobs, at least none that I know. While it is disheartening to know the skill set we spent years crafting is banned because of our government, most pros have good options or at least a backup plan. Unfortunately for the United States, a lot of extremely young and bright entrepreneurs are headed for foreign countries and taking their money with them. I actually logged-on here to see where Snowbank was headed but he hasn't posted since the shutdown.

Fun fact, the only two major countries that don't allow online poker... North Korea and the USA.

-online gambling
-no taxes from winning?

Online poker is not illegal, this is a very common misperception and has not been rebutted well by the poker community. 4 years ago, a Senator who opposes all gambling for morality reasons had been waging a battle with online gambling (roulette, craps, blackjack etc). He was unable to pass any anti-gambling legislation so he snuck in a provision to a must pass Port-Authority Act that made it illegal for any financial institution to facilitate deposits to any online gambling entity. Most Congressmen didn't even know this provision was in the legislation. He did not differentiate between skill games like poker and games of luck like casino table games. These payment processors are what the government attacked two weeks ago that shut down online poker.

Most serious poker players pay taxes. I am sure there is a small population that dodge their taxes although it is probably proportional to the population in any profession that evade taxes. Facing the largest deficit in its history, the government spent tens-of-millions of dollars to eliminate a billion dollars in tax revenue. I had already written my first quarter estimated tax check and shredded it since I obviously won't be earning that income. I have made enough to stay-at-home with my young children and live comfortably off my assets until they are older. However, most pros are younger than me and they will be moving to other countries to continue playing poker online. Either way, the government is not going to see a fraction of the tax revenue from pro poker players that it saw the last several years.
