I have an idea for a product that would alert parents when a child has been left in a car seat. My idea is fairly simple as far as execution but I'm curious about what steps you would take in the process of creating a prototype, getting funding etc. I've never been involved in physical product development. I had done a patent search awhile back but as of now I still don't see anything on the market whatsoever.
Some of my concerns are that companies may shy away because of liability for product failure. Obviously it's not intended to replace human responsibility but with people ready to sue at the drop of a hat it's made people wary. Consumer execution... it has to be done every time for it to work.
Just curious how much product development you do before you pursue patent and at what point do you start initial funding prospecting. I had several colleagues and friends at the time very interested in initial investment to get something made but it was when I was working other business ventures. I don't want to talk too much about the concept here. Anybody have any suggestions or experience in product design?
