It's been mentioned before on here but there is a lot of truth to the saying that if you do not have your health, you don't have anything.
Well, several of you know that we've been through a bit of a scare. A weird mole on my back wasn't a mole, it was a Clark's Level IV melanoma. Over the past few weeks I've been through more medical procedures than I have in the past 39 years, total. Three biopsies, 1 brain scan, a sentinal lymph node removal and dissection, a 5cm diameter section of my back removed, radioactive dye injection, radioactive sugar injection, blood tests, MRI's, Sonograms, PET scans, enough paperwork to close 17 real estate transactions and more injections than Amy Winehouse's fan club gets in a year.
Over the past month I've had a real chance to reflect on some things. Without your health, no amount of wealth is worth a damn.
I lost a large piece of skin and a lymph node, I've gained a lot of perspective.
As you review your fastlane goals and todo lists take a moment to add a new column if you haven't already. Put down things like prostate exams and pap smears. What's your cholesterol looking like? How's your liver? What's your EKG looking like? What is your cardio fitness like? How's your diet? How's your weight?
I'm greedy, I want to continue harassing and aggravating Jill for at least another 60 years. Live to 100 is one of my longterm goals now. Poor Jill was terrified that she'd have to learn how to vacuum and do laundry.
I turn 40 in November, I will turn 40 in the best shape of my life with complete awareness of how ALL of my systems are working and I am now officially deemed cured, not better, not in remission, cancer free. Thank you GOD!
Earlier this week I got back the results of the biopsies from the lymph node and excised tumor. Lymph node clean, margins around tumor clean:great:
Then I got back the results of the brain scan, all 3 brain cells look healthy :great:
I got my "Final Exam" today, the post surgery PET Scan came back A+. :great:
Guys, you don't want to hold your breath waiting for test results. It kinda sucks, invest in a complete physical and spend a few hours today learning about self exams for various things. As an example, once a melanoma progresses to the lymph nodes the odds drop to coinflip type odds. When you catch them when they are only in the top layer of skin, the odds are 99% that you will be around. I WAS between the two, but did not have to be. I waited (almost) too long due to a stupid fear of doctors and hospitals. Life is hard, life is harder when you are stupid.:smx4:
