@Maggie E, You should get some quotes in the US before considering having the product made overseas.

I have posted a number of times on this subject and you will see one of my early answers here: GOLD - Sharing my lifetime experience in export/import. Product sourcing specialist.

There are other possibilities such as having different factories in China make different component parts and you have them assembled in the US, if that is practical. In that case you don't disclose to the China manufacturers what the finished product is.

Although my book is primarily about sourcing in China and other countries, just let me know if you need help sourcing in the US. From my first business I have extensive experience in a wide range of manufacturing industries where I operated as a troubleshooter and problem solver, so I might be able to offer you some more ideas.

I have a product and am not sure if I should pay a company 5-15k to make a prototype of in the US (no way I can make it myself. Or if I should have someone from oversees make me one? Huge price difference? It's literally a napkin drawing right now.
