Well, my time has almost come.
Six months ago, (four months after finding this place) I made a choice. A choice that will hopefully, forever change my life. I decided that on 9/3/08, @ 6 am, I will leave my previous lifestyle behind. I gave myself seven months to prepare and execute. (which I learned was WAY to long!!!)
It's coming down to these last thirty days to see if I can execute all the steps of my plan and be free from my job, lifestyle, and previous bleak career knowledge, outlook, and future.
I must say, no matter what the outcome, I appreciate this forum, what it stands for, and everyone here to no end, and will be forever grateful even at times when it may not show. Thank You from the depths of my soul.
So what the hell am I doing you say?
I have a crazy background and a 'jack of all trades' skill set that comes from my youth. I've been a contractor/handyman for the last couple years and I'm calling it quits. I've had the opportunity to grow that business but choose not to. I'm naturally gifted in construction but my gut is telling me something different, so I'm rolling with it.
I've spent the last 6 months learning about the internet, systems, entrepreneurship, internet marketing, and most all, leveraging my time. I've tried some affiliate marketing, info product sales, contemplated a service ebiz, etc...
I feel that internet businesses are the best way for me to go, and I'm really, REALLY, enjoying the chase and learning experience. ( I never noticed the extent of this until people started telling me I light up like a candle burning with passion when these topics are discussed)
I began to realize the full scope of how much my new endeavors and dreams began to consume me when my priorities started to change. Hobbies fell off, life's daily tussles didn't matter anymore, and I really took notice when my plans and research were keeping me up at night. Friggin insomniac! Not a day goes by that I don't think about it. My plan is becomming my life.
Onward. So these last few months, I've been tapering off my clients and extent of my work duties. It's a JOB to me, even though I enjoy construction/design on my own time. I will still have a few recurring commitments in the coming months for a very limited number of people, but this will be kept to a bare minimum and requires little to no sporadic time commitments.
I decided I wanted to start over, so I basically own nothing now. I've slowly been eliminating my possessions down to the things that make up my core. Thus far I'm down to a Jeep, a trailer, a quad, boxes of memories, and an array of tools. Computers and technology items are not considered.
I've eliminated all of my debt except for an account in dispute (I have decent credit @ a lil over 750, hopefully I didn't screw that up) and have reduced my expenses to the lowest lifestyle I know how to lead.
I am now effectively a No Net Worth Know It All! LOL
Not that I was ballin before, but ya know.
I've found a house to rent, CHEAP!, no car payments, no doodad purchases, nothing! My expenses, with food, are down to 2k per month.
The goal I set 6 months ago for 9/3/08, is 3k per month in semi passive income from my online ventures, which will allow me to work "fulltime" on my plan and internet endeavors with such a bare bones lifestyle/expense report.
I have not reached that goal just yet, half way with 5 to 9 effort, but with one last push of a couple new sites (waiting for design delivery), I hope to complete everything on time and have enough time to pull in the extra income by my deadline.
For those that are curious, I've been doing some internet marketing. I've made some info products and marketed them to the health niche, among a couple others. I saw and chose internet marketing as a way to get my feet wet and learn the processes of the internet. My intent is to increase those efforts to meet my short term goal, but I won't continue the same tact for the long term.
My plan is to extract the successes and lessons that I've learned from marketing (satisfying customers with valued solutions in sub niches) and scale them up into an authority site that offers a service to a much larger audience, as well as many other things. Ultimately, I will create a network of intertwined authority sites that will dominate a given space.
To add to my push for the deadline, I'm deploying some sites catering to affiliate marketing. The idea is to leverage my time creating sites once (semi passive with some up keep) that cater to products being sold, leverage the marketing efforts of product manufacturer's (no ppc for this set), and stand in front of the traffic (offer free value and in return a stored cookie if someone chooses to purchase).
My strategy is working and the money is coming regardless, I'm just a little concerned about the time constraint, as my new sites may not be active long enough for me to pull in the extra revenue by the third.
Time will tell ultimately, but I'm loving every second of this!:yourock:
I have a feeling this is getting kind of long, so I won't bore with anymore details.
In short, once I'm full time on my plan, and begin building my internet businesses, I plan to roll those profits into RE (my next new adventure in the coming years). My goal is to focus on my internet businesses until I reach 100k/mo net, and then begin to make my next move.
2008 has been the best year of my life!
And THAT, I owe to all of you! I can't thank you enough!
To Your Success In 2009,
Matt
P.S. I'll be looking for some input in the near future about scaling internet businesses. Or even identifying the correct principles to begin with, as I see the jump from 10k/mo to 100k/mo requiring a bit more experience and a slightly different approach. (10k is seeming like a cakewalk) Or at least, maybe a helpful push or knowledge from those who have been there. But I know if I can make 1k/mo, I can make 100k/mo! WOOHOO!!!
