Hey, all nice to meet you!
I’m 26 years old and employed as a game designer in the Netherlands. I finished university last year and have since been employed at the same company I interned at for a year during my studies.
Ever since I started as a real employee, I sort of felt stuck. I didn’t really have the words to describe how I felt, but I just knew I wasn’t really happy.
Last week I did not get a promotion. According to the manager telling me this, I was exceeding expectations for my level in all regards. I had to dig to get some feedback I could actually work with. Why, when I’m exceeding expectations, am I not being promoted?
One of the higher ups had decided I was not there yet. Not confident enough. Then the manager proceeded on telling me how he thinks it’s a shame that there is such a macho culture and that there is nothing wrong with the way I carry myself in the company, the guys are just not used to it. Which is even more frustrating as this is the person who is supposed to be setting and guarding the company values.
The following weekend I started The Millionaire Fastlane , thinking it was just another self help book. But with the great reviews, I wanted to give it a shot. And man what a ride. It described perfectly to me why I was struggling so badly working at this company.
I mostly struggle with the fact that I have no control.
Thanks for reading through my mini-rant. I hope this gives some context to why I am here. I’m looking forward to learning from all of you!

- I don’t control if I get a promotion: one man can say nah, not now, and I have to wait for half a year to get more money and ownership.
- I don’t control if they let me go because they couldn’t secure a deal. They haven’t been extending contracts lately and I’ve constantly been scared that they would do the same to me.
- I don’t control what they want me to specialize in. They are constantly trying to push me into specializations I don’t fully want to commit to, I like being a generalist and understanding the bigger picture.
Thanks for reading through my mini-rant. I hope this gives some context to why I am here. I’m looking forward to learning from all of you!
