Lately I read a lot about not taking care about your weaknesses and instead soley focusing on your strengths.
The reasoning seems clear: You will maybe not be on top in the fields of your weaknesses ever. But the amount of energy you would have to put in would be tremendous to just get to a medium level.
Instead if you put that same amount of energy into your strengths, it can get you on top of that field fast.
My point is: Dont try to turn your weaknesses into strengths. But DO MANAGE your weaknesses. Focus on all these little weak points that stop you from being the best in your field. In a chain you gotta work on the weakest link. If you dont, if you polish the strongest one cause you are so proud, you will still lose cause of that weakest link.
But that fixing of that weakest link doesnt have to become your signature move. You can just take care of it so it wont stop you. You can get help to make it strong enough to no longer be the link that breaks.
You can be excellent in product development. If you suck at marketing your excellence is wasted. But that does not mean you have to become a marketing professional first. Just Manage it. Fix it. Get someone to do it, get the least minimum of Marketing knowledge you need to get your excellent products out there. That way you can still focus most of your energies into your greatest excellence. But it will work. You cannot ignore where your weaknesses are and try to just overcome it by outperforming everyone in your field. You need to manage the whole chain so it will work.
