Hello everyone,
About 2 months ago, I started learning web development. I already have an engineering background, and I had 2 months before University started.
I put in 10-12 hours daily learning how to code. I learned coding, especially front-end, because it genuinely excited me, and also because I have a further goal in mind.
I already knew the basics of HTML, CSS, and some JavaScript.
I had the issue of tutorial hell, which basically means you learn a lot without any output. At the time, I was learning React, Tailwind, and DOM manipulations.
I’d spend hours learning, reading the docs, and copying YouTube videos.
I found someone on Discord who needed help learning some stuff. I offered him help for free, but the problem got deeper, and I offered to solve it for him for free. He
wanted a portfolio website, and the deadline was today. I finished it 1 week ahead of the deadline.
In less than 10 minutes, we hopped on a call, and I reassured him that everything would be okay and that I’d finish his website. At that time, I had never built or deployed anything in my life.
He then got more involved, and I kept working and learning along the way. I didn’t have a perfect understanding of everything, but this way was much faster to learn and
actually escape tutorial hell.
The website exceeded both his expectations and mine.
He ended up paying me 500 Euros and said he’d pay more if he could afford it.
Here is his website in case you want to check my work. https://davidprx.com My first website ever!!
Right now, I’m doing another project for a relative, but I feel lucky to have landed this person as a client.
Here’s what I’m working on right now. https://accumedicsys.vercel.app [A ton of improvement animation wise]. [These here are remakes 100% all of my code is original any my own creation] [I don't copy paste!!]
I really want to keep this going, but I need some guidance on how to approach things. What should I focus on? How can I land more clients?
I feel like what I did was solve his problem, and he was just generous enough to pay me for my effort.
I’d also appreciate some feedback.
I didn’t pay for a single course; it’s all 80-100 hours of work and learning per week for the past 4-5 weeks.
Thank you so much for reading!
