This past week I was talking to my friend on my cell. He was driving home late at night and we were just talking about how its 2009 and its a new year and how we we're not getting any younger. I told him that I'm going to do alot in 2009. Then he said "What the f__k?" and all I heard was a bang, glass breaking and all this metal crunching sound. He just kept yelling "f__k f__k f__k" and it felt like it went on for 30 seconds.
To me it sounded like his car was tumbling. When all the noise stopped, he was able to say "Ive been in a real bad accident" I heard him put the phone down and I could he people rush up to his car and try to open the door. After some jostling, I heard a seat belt unclick and the door open. He said to me "I'll call you back, it's real bad" and he hung up.
I then called my other friend who lives nearby him (he's in another state) and told him what happened and he went out looking for him. Later on my other friend called me back and said that my friend is fine but they were heading for the hospital.
Later on I found out what happened and I saw pictures of his car. It was a major accident that closed the highway down for 2 hours. The person in the other car was killed instantly. My friend is lucky to be alive. Without going into gory details, let's just say that the other car hit another car head on at full speed on the highway and went airborne and landed onto his right side windshield. It's rear bumper ended up in his passenger seat and embedded into his center console! He described it to me by saying that it looked like the Hulk had hurled a car at him.
He escaped with only a cut on his leg and some glass in his eyes, but looking at his car it's something I still can't believe.
Anyway, the reason I posted this is because when something like this happens so close to you, it really makes you think. Now, I ready lived my life this way, but the fact that we were talking about making 2009 plans and goals when this occurred is really ingraining it into my head. A few of my other friends are freaked out too. It scary how fast life can change. A few foot here or there either direction and I could have been the last person to talk to him.
