Is Product Management consulting still worth it in 2026?

Most of my career has been in tech, in Product Management. I've been busting my a$$ these past few months for a big release and the one thing my semi-boss said in the performance review as "how do we get more of you?" and that although I am meeting expectations, I still need to do more. I don't want to do even MORE. For what exactly? I am already stretched thin as hell.

Analyzing what I've enjoyed in these jobs as a PM and with a little bit of guidance from Claude, it seems like going to consultation route could help. Focused specifically on billing systems since that's what a lot of my experience is from. I could help smaller / earlier start ups that might need to save money in their billing approach.

But is that still something people would be willing to pay for? Especially with all the AI tools that exist today. Or am I giving people too much credit and not realize that it is a pain point I could really help solve and consult on?

Any guidance would be appreciated!

Plan for now:
- Write a one pager
- Reach out to some contacts on LinkedIn in case they know anyone, to make an intro. And happy to return the favor.
- Land one client and do a pilot run with them for 30 days.
