So I have to ask all of you a question when at the end of the day is simply a moral and ethical question.
But first let me explain my situation. My wife makes enough money to support the family. Me, her and 6 (soon to be 7) kids. We live in a 4,000 ft New England style home and she has the ability to maintain and pay current expenses. We also own another home which we plan to begin renting out in the Spring time.
Now, this allows me to bank whatever I earn. With my plan, I can begin putting all my earnings away for future investments etc. The problem I see here is my wife sees more money coming in from me and there is always that nice picture, or that nice mirror, or that nice bedroom set, or we really get that cool new dining room table, buffet, etc. Get my point? It's always about how we can spend the money.
I have drawn clear goals and always bring them up but for some reason they are some how justified in her mind. Usually "well once we get that bedroom set we won't ever need another one."
I don't mind living nicely and having nice things but there is a point I think where it becomes an obsession. I would like to sock away cash so that in 4 years I can put a down payment on a really nice rental, or invest it into something. I think she wants to as well BUT the impulse to buy at the moment fogs out any long-term goals.
Now, the question I want to ask is... "Would it be wrong for me to not tell my wife about the money I am saving?" I could easily tell her and say we can't touch it but I know for some reason she may end up convincing me we would need the money for something. What if I didn't tell anybody and socked away cash just for a few years.
Anyone else do this? Or have any advice for me on this? :smxF:
