I had imported a product from China through Alibaba. This was just a test sample to I examine the product, and experience the process, e.t.c. However, after opening the DHL bag it came in it appears the product was sealed tight with yellowscotch tape. I had to use a knife and cut all around the edges to open it !!

So here's the question. For you guys that have imported from China before is this how the product normally appears? I attached a picture of it

I've never had the product sealed tight like that although I've had a few parcels wrapped in an excessive amount of tape before

I used to import a fragile product. They would cover entire large boxes with tape like that I always assumed to increase stability alongside the sheets of foam inside the box.

In any case, it's nothing to worry about.

Some tape porn for you.

This is Guangzhou, China --> Africa. Everyone flying home had boxes of product (likely fake clothes) that they were taking with them. Heavy in tape is the standard:

Yup. Ton of tape is the standard for Chinese air shipments.

And trust me, you'll start enjoying that nasty tape smell the more packages you get.

Wont this take away from the customers unboxing experience? I literally had to surgically cut open the box before I could get to the product, as opposed to most shipped products where I just snip away a few lines of tape and the box pops open. !!

From the tenor of your original post I am guessing that you intend dropshipping. You can specify the type of packaging when ordering. If you say it must be in a zip close or ziplock bag, they might do that, but you won't be sure until it arrives.

In any case, unless you are dropshipping there is no real problem because bulk orders won't likely be packed that way. It would be very unusual.

This is not the big deal if they had used an excessive amount of tape on it. I think, for safety purpose need to use. Every exporter wants to deliever the products in the good condition.
