Hey everyone. I post on here very rarely, as I'm usually bombarded with school and bad habits. (like video games)
For the last year and a half, I've been running my design business on a single forum. It's unfortunate to say, but progress has been slow. I haven't hired anyone, nor have I expanded my marketing to other forums and businesses. This made me realize a few weeks ago that what I created was a job, not a business (for the meantime.)
So around a week ago, I sat down, brainstormed on what I could possibly do that could genuinely provide quality and be useful to my customers; and then I figured it out.
I'd write an e-book.
So, I'm not sure if you're read my dumb "14 year old YouTuber making $1500 a month" post that I created almost two years ago, but I'd say YouTube is one of my golden suits. Which is exactly why I decided I'd write an e-book on a step by step guide to YouTube success. This process took me maybe ten hours to completely zip up, which was quite a bit less than I honestly thought. Once I finished writing, I packed it up into two nice little packages: the "Gold" package for $39.99 USD, and the "Platinum" package for $59.99 USD (which offers my clients support and help starting their channels.) After that portion was complete, all I needed was the advertisements.
So, as I'm a designer, I decided it'd be appropriate to advertise my e-book with a sort of theme. So after a few hours of work I finished up with something like this:
And after I finished designing, I was ready to go.
As I already have heavy reputation on the forum, I assumed I'd get a reasonable amount of sales in the first day (boy was I wrong.)
I seemed to have completely misjudged the market as I got my first $40 sale after THREE DAYS. I had a point where I'd just keep refreshing nonstop to try and see any movement. Alas, I believe it has been two weeks, and I'll be happy to share my profits right here.
After two weeks of selling my e-book I have received:
A total of 7 sales, and $354. Now, to you this may sound stupid and completely not worth the effort. But I'm here to tell you that I consider this a LARGE accomplishment, as after over 3 years of gruesome designing work, I can finally earn PASSIVE income. I have an expensive a$$ car and this e-book alone has been paying for all of my gas. Now that the book is out there, I can reap the rewards as long as I advertise my e-book on the forums. My question to you more experienced people is this, however.
Should I keep updating the e-book without charging my customers, or should I just let it go? What would be your next step from here?
Thanks a million for anyone who read this, and I hope you know that I appreciate you. My goal is to retire by 25, so I better cut shit out like video games ASAP. Please give me as much advice as possible, as part of my future depends on you
Ivan
