Hello, y'all! Recently joined this forum and I've tried reading many of the "Gold" ones. Obviously, I haven't read them all, but some at least, the rest I've put into my bookmarks
I am a bit unsure if I put it into the correct sub-forum but I hope there're no hard feelings if I did :/
So I am in need of a bit different insights/opinions from other people. Now I am not asking for you to tell me what to do or what decision to take. I just wanna get another point of view. To make sure I don't miss anything and therefore can make the best possible decision myself.
Short background; 17 years old, high-school dropout since January. Sidewalk parents meaning they can't really help me anyhow financially. Got a business idea and knows quite well how I should execute it, at least I would say I know theoretically. This business would finance me for a few years (2-3) when I travel around the world.
Even while I've planned out (a bit at least) on how I want things to happen. I am unsure of what my next move is from here. Since my parents are side walkers they can't really help financing my business. Is this the point where I get a job that will finance my business until it actually brings in an income by itself? Or is there other ways to proceed?
I have managed to (in my opinion) network quite well and I've managed to get myself a mentor. Not really into business but still a mentor. He is an investor and manages around $25 million US. He set me up last week to meet a CEO who is the middleman of investors and Real Estate companies in need of financing, aka he is a bank. From this CEO, I received another business idea, which I would enjoy doing in a few years when I've been out travelling.
Is there any chance I could ask my mentor if he would mind investing in me and my future business? I am in need of around $12,000 US. Which isn't really a "big number" but I doubt that people get rich by throwing away 10k US on things they are unsure of. Can I present the idea for him in a way that would make him willing to invest in me/my business? I also have a wealthy uncle who has money, but then again I wouldn't want to mix family in business if possible to avoid. Do I think wrong about this and would it be ethically ok asking my uncle/mentor for money into my business? How should I present it to them in that case?
Or should I ask any of my friends/mentors if they could get me a job that I'll have until I can finance my business by myself? Could I ask that "bank CEO guy" if I possibly could get anything at his company? If I were to do that, how should I approach them? I know for a fact I have a friend with people "higher-up" but I am not really close to that dude so I am unsure if I wanna ask him for such a thing. The mentor probably could get me something but then again, how do I make such a request to both my friend, mentor and possibly "Bank CEO guy"?
Or should I just apply for McDonalds or something like that and hustle my way to the money? I think this is the least likely as I don't really have any work experience (1-week intern at a food store) and therefore not really an attractive CV which means they kinda "throw me away" right away.
Have I missed anyway I could get the finance needed?
Please come with your thoughts/opinions
Else I just wanna say sorry for the messy thread. But my thoughts are all over the place right now. I need to get some practical work on all this business stuff as I've read way too much theory right now without putting anything into practical use.
