Ever notice how some people grow up physically, but remain children on the inside?

They have a full-grown adult body but behave like kids do—whining and complaining when things don’t go their way.

While it may be easy to notice these traits in others, it’s important to remember that we’re human too, and also susceptible to this type of behavior.

All it takes is one slight perspective shift and we could be right there with them, moaning and groaning, bitter and unsatisfied.

One unpleasant circumstance—one painful experience—not processed in a healthy way… and BAM. Childlike behavior can emerge.

We’re not always dealt the cards we want to play.

Regardless of how much you apply yourself, in life, there are going to be some things you can’t change.

There's something you can do though, something that’ll prevent you from falling into that childlike state.

And that’s to take responsibility and focus on the things you can control:
  1. What you put your attention on.
  2. What things mean to you.
  3. What you'll do.
Even if you can’t change what’s happening to you, you can always change how you interpret what’s happening.

No one's singled out for misfortune; and suffering and pain are a part of everyone’s lives.

The less you take life’s perceived misfortunes personally, the more you’ll be able to grow through them.

The more you make yourself out to be a victim of these so-called misfortunes, the more you distance yourself from developing an understanding.

And understanding is the road through misfortune.

So, if you ever find yourself experiencing a situation where you’re feeling miserable, stop trying to not be so miserable.

Accept what’s happening, sit with it, then look for another point of view.

The course of nature is complex, and we never know what’s in store for us.

From that misery could come the greatest thing to ever happen to you.

But you’ll never know until you get through it with a new understanding.

Who knows, maybe life happens for us, not to us.

I had something I was going to say to close this message, but these two quotes wrap it up well:

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards."
— Steve Jobs

"If you're going through Hell, keep going."
— Winston Churchill
