My thread, What Would you do with the Equity?, got a little off topic when we started wondering what $70K looks like. I couldn't find the info easily, so I registered a domain and built a widget. Basically, I found a need and filled it (with $10 and 3 hours of HTML).

Anyone have any strategies to monetize this baby?

(FYI, $70,000 weighs 1.5lbs in hundreds or 154lbs in ones!)

Not sure where you're getting your data from, but I think you're off by a good bit

My data is from Google, so I'm SURE it's off. Please submit suggestions for better sources of data.

The assumptions are:
  • Perfectly crisp bills with no air-space between them.
  • Bill dimensions of 6.14x2.61x0.0043"
  • Bill weight of 0.035oz.
Correct me, please. Then help me make money with it!:smxB:

Ok, you made me go to my bedroom and open my safe just to see... just kidding.

Take a wad of cash and weigh it on a decent scale. Go to the bank and get yourself $100 in one dollar bills. Then weigh it and measure its stacked dimensions.

BTW, I stumbled your site. Maybe others will vote for it and you'll get the Stumbled traffic.

Hmm . . . having held $40,000 (in hundred dollar notes) in my hand, I know it wasn't anywhere close to 17.5 pounds.

Probably more like a pound? Hard to remember.

But really, I never thought to quantify it, so I don't want to pass on bad information.

Here's the internet info I found (sheesh, who knows if it's correct!):

Q: What is the length of the dollar bill and how much does currency weigh?
A: Length = 6 1/8 inches (all denominations are the same)
Strap = 100 notes = 3.48 ounces
Bundle = 1,000 notes = 2.19 pounds
Brick = 4,000 notes = 8.75 pounds
Cash Pak = 16,000 notes = 35 pounds
Based on 1996 Series

Using the above numbers:

$40,000 ÷ 100 = 400 notes

Strap = 100 notes = 3.48 ounces

400 notes = (3.48 x 4) = 13.92 ounces

Hey, pretty close to a pound!

Again, I can't vouch for the accuracy of the above info. But it does correlate a bit better w/my (admittedly limited) real life experience.

Fun idea for a website, BTW. :smx7:

Maybe my algebra sucks and I need to slide that decimal point over one notch. We'll do that for now... Awaiting more had data from anyone who wants to weigh a dollar for me.

So Russ' 40K weighed 0.88lbs and Jorge's 100 weighed 2.2 (?)

I don't know if 4 pounds is correct. I use the metric system. It was around 1.5kg if my memory works ok lol

While I'm waiting for answers to that question, does anyone know how to write the code to make my little calculator round to the nearest 10th?

Tell me what you think I could do with them? I contacted them to see if they are interested in using my widget, but the site (which seems old) has no current contact info. Ideas?

Why don't you just get a good scale and weigh a $1000 in 100's, and use that as your variable. Maybe $5000 to get a little more exact.
Because I got the exact numbers from the Treasury.

Lemme guess: a 2200lb stack of about 40 cubic feet?

After one year, I think I finally figured out how to monetize Cash Dimensions. A lot of people were using it to find out how big the Stimulus Package is. Well, I created a special Stimulus Package Facts page that links to a CafePress store with Stimulus Package merchandise.

IMHO, your merchandise feels a little lack luster. Like it is almost there, but not quite. I am not a design guy by any means, so I am not sure what it missing, it just feels like something is. Current design gave me no motivation to purchase.

Well you can carry $10k worth of 100's in your pocket pretty easy, its roughly 1/2 in thick. New bills bundled from the bank, used ones would be more of course.

You should see some of the boats at the offshore tournament's. Some of the big pots are $20k or $30k buy in's, first prize can be $500k...$700k... A lot of those guys have half or 3/4 of a mill in cash on board. Doesn't take up as much space as you think.

I always find it funny how they can walk down the dock in crap shorts and a Guy Harvey T shirt and plunk $60k down on the table for the pot. I wish I made that kind of money so I could throw around 60 g's like that.
