Or just use Excel. It has numerous functions to help find names and tag them for verification:

You can use Ctrl + F for the Find and Replace box to find individual names...

Or =IF(ISNUMBER(MATCH(B2,A:A,0)),1,0) to tag items that are already in the list with '1', and those that aren't with '0'

On a side note, I didn't know how technologically backwards I was until I had to learn Excel in university...and they weren't even macros. Just your basic shit like pivot tables.

Excel should be amongst the first things taught in high school computer classes...but in my country, the few schools I know that do just forced kids to memorize coding jargon WITHOUT THE f*ckING COMPUTER.
(I know because I talked to a niece of mine)

If staff in a university don't know how to do Excel sheets, the whole place must be closed down immediately and all the money refunded to the students.
Lol, you wouldn't believe this but the project names were all in different physical books, so Book A - C had all the project names from the history of the accounting department from A - C, it was a nightmare, I had to type all the names of every project of my department into a word file for the programmer, lol... so while my mates were partying, I was typing, this was 9-10 years ago in a Nigerian university just for context.

Hi Everyone,

I'm on a mission to become an idea machine and I'm challenging myself to come up with 10 ideas everyday. I'm curious to see how you might come up with ideas.

Here's how I do it so far:
  • Idea sex: mix two random products together = ?'s
  • Problem based: Either through my own problems, or asking questions to friends and families about their problems
  • "Wouldn't it be great if....".... finish the sentence with what product or service you think would be great
  • Imagining the future: What do you think the future will look like and what products and services will need to be around to support it
  • Reverse imagination: What things do we use/or do that people will look back on in 10 years time and think, "wow, that was stupid" (such as reading maps!)
  • Plus just general lists like:
    • Ideas for a podcast
    • Things that annoy me
    • Things that would make me laugh
    • Ideas for TV shows or movies
My aim is to build a strong idea muscle through working it out everyday that I will find an idea that I'll be confident enough to being me to the fastlane.

How do you come up with ideas?
Well to me improving an existing products or services makes the fast lane easier.
Each ideas you that comes to your mind, never forget to interact with the market to know if they love your idea to avoid spending time on the idea the market doesn't want .

It’s very interesting that the article seems not to be the recommend first step. More the second after having identified a problem. But than not random ideas (how to write a blog …), but more problem specific .

You need to re-program the relationship between perception and cognition.

In reality everything is governed by the conatus principle in philosophy. Everything is trying to self-actualize itself. The economy is trying to actualize itself in terms of efficiency, productivity and utility.

I don't try to come up with ideas. I try to help people. Some will say I sound like a stuck record, but there's a reason I keep bringing this up.

Challenge yourself to help 3 people each day instead of have 10 ideas a day.

Why? Business is about adding value, and getting paid. Helping people = Adding value. Having ideas is not adding value.
Thank you Andy! This is my gold nugget for the day. My wife and I have been talking ideas everyday (and starting to act on the ones we like until we find the service already exists). I am now pivoting from idea generating to helping. Thank you for the value you just added to me!

Dane Maxwell's book, start from zero (has a really nice method of idea extraction)
Omg!

That video was amazing.

Don’t generate ideas, extract them.

Scratching your own itch.

Ie. I love to eat the “Big Papa” pickles but I freaking can’t stand accidently squeezing the pickle too hard and spraying pickle juice all over me.

It’s a pain in the butt to eat a pickle at work, movie theatres, football games etc.

If I could use some gizmo to hold it and prevent juice spillage. That would be noyce!!!

If I had to point you to one thing it would be this:

The amazing thing when you start helping people is that you'll eventually get better at helping people with similar problems. You'll specialise in helping people with those problems, and start becoming an authority as @eliquid suggests. If you want to grow a business then you'll help people / add value so that you get paid. As soon as you're getting paid you're on your way. As you get more and more experience helping people using your skillset then you'll get more than 10 ideas a day naturally - all related to helping those people more.

I challenge you to get paid helping someone this week. If you can't get paid, then at least go help someone this week.
I agree with Andy. Helping others creates a LOT of opportunities and new business ideas. It's really simple. Find a problem and create a solution. That way you don't have to sell your solution -- just present it to the guy with the problem. If your solution works, they'll tell everyone that they can find who will listen. Your business will grow organically. Your job is to deliver your solution consistently in exchange for an affordable price.

You should try “Bob’s Pickle Pops.” They’re great and would solve this

For me, I usually try to be a little more present throughout my day. I try to notice things that could be more efficient or things/services that annoy me. I also try and listen to others when hearing complaints from them.

Just think of good ideas, lol.
For me, good ideas come when I sweep around and then immediately write whatever comes up, and by immediately I mean it, immediately.

Good ideas are like dreams, they can provide insight but can be quickly forgotten if you absolutely make sure to remember what you were thinking of.

I must write them down before they get lost in the business of my day.

How do you come up with ideas?
This is how I started my second business :

I needed a product.
I found the product.
I was like .. WTF .. why its so F*cking expensive?
Its just injection molded plastic with polished wood parts.
From experience, I knew approx cost of materials.
From experience, I knew approx cost of machining.
From experience, I knew approx cost of overheads.
I contacted the platform and express my wish to sell similar product to find out their overseas shipping, commission and other charges!
In less than 24 hours I knew if I made this very product in bulk in my country, I would still be able to make 70%-100% profit or more.
I couldn't sleep till first sample batch was made. The smell of money makes me go crazy!
Brute Forced sales in local markets at ground level.
Sold 500 pieces of the product in 3 days .. offline!
Time to bet some investment on the calculated gamble
1st order manufactured at my premises - 10,000 pieces!
sold in less than 2 months - Thank You Amazon!
Next Batch, 10k pieces ..
Milk it till the product is HOT .. Make a ton of profit on my investment !
competition enters ..
Sell your remaining stock at best price that you can ..
Move to next HOT product I can salvage before the trend goes viral.

Its more like a side hustle than my main business.
I see opportunities. Ideas are the cheapest entity in the world, after advice!
And I am great at execution!

My aim is to build a strong idea muscle through working it out everyday that I will find an idea that I'll be confident enough to being me to the fastlane.

I might be wrong, but I think an opportunity is different than an Idea.
Idea is ---- If X is done in Y way .. Z money can be made!
Opportunity is ---- If I can get my hands on this tomorrow, I can sell it with 70% margin within a month!

My 2 cents, don't take me seriously. I am little less educated than most here !

Warm regards and Good Luck !

"How do you generate ideas?"

These are online business ideas, for example check out the largest marketplaces:

You can't see the exact web addresses of the businesses for sale, however these two marketplaces are the largest and these are curated listings. It means that the marketplace (Empire Flippers or FE International) validates these businesses: revenue, traffic sources etc.). So these are real, successful businesses. I mentioned these two sites because they are the two largest, curated marketplaces.

You can browse the listings and open them to read more about a business for sale. Then you can get some ideas like what business model to pursue, what niches to target, what is the revenue potential etc.

So the real value of these resources is that these are real, validated businesses and you can see the niche and revenue. So this is not some theoretical lists of "best niches" or "best business models", but actual successful businesses.
