Curious from others who have started their own business or are working on it, how did you/do you live like no one else?

Five years ago, when my husband was getting his business going we:

1. Lived on $1100 a month for 18 months. We didn't have a mortgage so that helped. On the other hand, we live in Vegas, so our A/C bills were like a mortgage for a few months a year. :p
2. My husband liquidated all of his assets except our home. Then, we were still short of paying our business expenses before things took off, so I liquidated most of my assets as well.
3. We got an SBA loan and put up our house as collateral.
4. My husband worked 365 days a year for a couple of years. Christmas, birthdays, when he was sick. When he wasn't working, he was reading. I worked at a full time professional job elsewhere to help support the household, then worked unpaid 25 hours a week for his business.
5. We ate some humble pie telling our family and friends that we couldn't do things like go out to eat, exchange Christmas gifts or do any outings that cost money.

Now that the business is thriving we:

1. Still work a lot, but not as much and we make our own hours.
2. Still drive old cars
3. Still live in the same house
4. Travel - we will sometimes fly to a city to see art house movies for a long weekend if something my husband likes is playing. He doesn't like international travel, but I do, so I have gone some cool places.
5. Food - we spend a lot to eat healthy food that we enjoy
6. Money - Putting everything on the line (my husband was in his late thirties and I was in my late twenties) caused a lot of money stress. Now we manage and respect our money, but it is a source of joy rather than stress.

What about you? What did/you are you giving up to live like no one else? Alternately, what are you enjoying if you are driving in the fast lane?
