It seems a lot of people think a business can't be successful without a revolutionary, never-before-seen idea (there is currently a featured post on this forum in which MJ adresses this) and that wealth is an "event", as MJ puts it.

How can you blame these people? Probably every millionaire story that has ever been fed to them came from the media. The media doesn't report boring events. Nobody is going to read about a random nobody from the middle of Idaho making 400k a year selling construction work equipment. People tend to forget that the media reports unusual events. If you solely rely on TV to shape your view of reality, you are in for a very bad time. If you consume the near-constant stream of suddenly rich computer prodigy kids daily, you will begin to think that this is the norm.

It is not. These articles are worthless. Reading them won't make you any money, nor do they provide valuable lessons that help you do so. All they do is rub in your face that someone worked hard to acquire skills that enabled them to make a lot of money. Usually, not even that. The first part is typically left out, as it isn't what the typical reader wants to hear. Instead of lessons, these articles provide a supply of outcomes which are unrealistic to achieve for most.

If you want lessons, read material that provides them. If you want to read about what a high school freshman who made millions with his 34th app is going to do with the money, read the news.
