Hello people!
Was actually thinking that its only appropriate for me to write an introduction of myself since i'm joining this forum as a big family. I'm Daniel, a 22 years old guy from Singapore and i'll be pursing my university studies over in Australia pretty soon, in months to come. Well more about myself, I'll most proberbly be working in the oil industries as an associate engineer once i graduate 2 years from now.
Actually, i have been surfing around the forum before i even registered myself. Eventually i realized that there are too many words of wisdom too precious to be missed within the contents.
I've always believed that the fastest way for one who truly wants to succeed is to make those who have been to your goals before, your role model. Thus it explains why i'm joining this big family and i'm sure that i'll acquire valuable knowledge in times to come.
Oh yea, did i forget to mention that i'm actually interested in starting up my own business? well, Some of you all might ask, what kind of business will you be interested of having? Honestly, i don't know. Few years back i've been inspired by books such as Awaken The Giants Within, Rich Dad Poor Dad, The Successful Principles and many more.
I have always remembered that my dad once told me that being rich doesn't necessarily meant that you'll have to work hard but to maintain your wealth would require diligence and focus after telling me that he told me a story. I'd like to share it with all of you all.
Sometime back, at a very point of time, The CEO of Colgate wanted to increase their total profit for 5%. Thus many meetings were held back then to discuss and formulate a marketing strategy that will eventually result in an increase of 5% profit. None of them worked after months. Desperate for a solution, the CEO offered a few million, i forgot how much exactly to the public saying that whoever could come out with a solution would be granted that several millions in cash.
Naturally, many people called in to provide their "solutions" but none of them seemed to be viable. But one fine day, an old man requested to meet the CEO in person and said that he has got a DEFINATE solution to the problem. You'll proberbly be thinking of how definate can a business solution be to 100% successful?
Well the solution was to increase the size of the toothpaste outlet by 5%. Thus resulting in the increase in amount of toothpaste being squeezed out by 5%. In turn, the tube of toothpaste would be used finish 5% faster in time and people will have to buy 5% faster as compared to their prior using speed of 1 tube of toothpaste.
The old man finally walked out of the company with several millions credited to his bank account.
This story taught me that creativity and flexibility is priceless in life. Its hard for us to think out of the box but it's certain worth the effort to if you try hard enough.
On the other hand, I wanted to share with you a little more about myself. I actually had a business idea a few years back that i am quite certain that it will fetch me a considerable sum of money. It is an idea using chemistry and refining process to create industrial alcohol from something that is free! what you might say? well its GRASS if not LEAVES  ...
as long as its made of a compound called cellulose! Grass to alcohol you might think, WOW! but the sad thing was that when i was 80% done with my research about the process, i found out that it was patented by the US government not long ago.
So yup. This is an actual lesson that i'll like to share with everyone pointing to the fact that if you have a business idea and you think that its good, act fast before the opportunity is lost.
Sorry for the long introduction! but well i'm happy to be here!
