Thought I'd share a story of mines.
A friend and I were supposed to go to an event in the city. I get to his house thinking that we would go ahead and hit the road so that we weren't late.
The time at this point is 5:30, the event starts at 8:00 and is approximately 45-50 minutes away with no traffic.
I walk in anticipating to go and he lets me know that traffic is bad and the gps is quoting a 45 minute delay.
So instead of 50 minutes to reach our destination it will now take us around an hour and a half. So our new ETA would be 7:00. Not bad honestly for the distance.
Instead of leaving then and arriving at 7 he says he wants to wait and let traffic die down. He figured if we left at around 6:15 most of the commuters will be fading out.
I did not think this was a great idea but hey this is his event i'm just a tag along.
6:15 comes and he checks the traffic and guess what.
Traffic Delay 1:22 minutes. That is not including the normal driving distance.
Nevertheless he panicked as our new ETA is now 8:15.
And it took every last bit plus an extra 10 minutes. We were late and he was now embarrassed and apologizing to his guest.
Moral of the story:
We too often look at the big picture and see how daunting a task or a goal may be.
We see that RED DELAY of Difficulty and decide to wait until maybe that red becomes an orange or goes away completely.
Which brings me to the quote from peter2:
"The time is NEVER right. If you wait for all the lights to turn green before you are heading to town, you are going to stay home the rest of your life."
We thought traffic (things) would get better (easier) as time went on and it didn't.
We were there stuck looking silly.
Not only would we have been almost there we may have actually been there at that moment if we had of left (started) right then.
The thing I like to tell myself is to get to that first red light ( because there WILL be red lights) maybe a few maybe alot. Just get to that light grind it out and when it turns green get to the next one. See a road block that cant be avoided? Ok cool, at least were not at home still on the couch. Figure out a solution and get to that next red light. They cannot be avoided.
