So, on the one hand, it's kind of a crazy idea and it seemingly has a very low chance of success/high chance of catastrophic failure (death).

On the other hand, if he really wants to do it, why do they keep stopping him? Especially once he makes it to international waters, do they really have jurisdiction to stop him anyways?

I salute this guy for having a goal and a dream and actually following through. Let no one ever accuse him of action faking.

Great story

It reminds me James Cameron movie director who had been to Mariana Trenches in Guam/Micronesia or something within that radius

Why do we stop people who try to jump off a roof? Because we aren’t a villainous crew cackling “Muahahahaaa” when an idiot tries to off himself.

This poor guy was cray cray.

Isn't there an old saying that one man's bubble boy is another man's freedom fighter?

Not saying dude isn't nutter butter, but I kind of support everyone's right to take on Darwin. The Coast Guard should have him sign a waiver that they won't respond to his emergency beacon, and just let him on his way.

Also, that government agent said: "Hamster Wheel of Doom". Dibs on band name.

why do they keep stopping him
There is a reason why society stop people like this.
And its not about him.
It's about your kids seeing that guy then inventing their own bubble and drowning in nearby lake.
