Looking around the forum I found Dane Maxwell's idea extraction technique.
Genius. I think it has its limits, but still genius.

So I went to four local businesses today and talked to the owners.
Here are the results.

1 - Isaac's - mens clothing store -
Isaac said his inventory was in his head and on paper and it was a PITA.
He showed me a piece of paper where he had written down different stuff.
He was quite nice and actually got a bit emotional when talking about time.
I felt like I wanted to help him, like I wish I could use my technical skills to blow up his sales somehow. Imagine how happy it would make him.
Basically what I gathered from it was that I could possibly create a system for scanning barcodes on a smartphone.
Adding items when they are brought into inventory and removing when they are sold.
Nothing really new and I've heard of it already being done...
However, he did make me think of something interesting.
What and when and who could be analyzed...I guess that's loyalty programs.
Stocard and keyring combine this with mobile coupons...but not with a business owner side that works with inventory. That could be cool .

2 - Finkelstein's music shop -
Not much good info really...talked about homeless people coming in and city regulations.
I even know these guys and shop there so it was a good little talk.
However, they did point out that sometimes power goes out or computer systems fail...so paper is nice to have. That's like 1% of the time though and there are backups and the cloud...

3 - Bail bonding place -
Not much to say other than the tough part of their business was tracking down people.
Some sort of indestructible tracker required for a bondsman to post your bail?
That could be really useful actually.

4 - Coastal Kicks -
Said barriers to entry and politics were his biggest beef.
He's been in business for two years and finally this summer is going to be given a nike account...even though he knows a lot of higher ups at nike.
So nothing really.

So in conclusion, a few interesting ideas.
I cold approach hot girls on campus and have good success so I'm not timid about talking to a few guys about business, LOL. It was pretty fun actually.
However, I feel like I would have to do this a lot until I stumbled upon something really juicy and untapped, with a long conversation like Dane's. Also, how does this give ideas for anything but apps really? Apps market is oversaturated...however many are kinda crappy and don't work right.

Not criticizing this method at all, I think it's really good.
Gonna go read about it some more and try it again tomorrow. Thoughts?
