Breakthrough Advertising - $1000 book for $12.95 on Amazon?

Hey Fastlaners,

So I've been snooping around for a copy of Breakthrough Advertising by Eugene Schwartz for some time, but those of you who are familiar with the book will know it's incredibly rare to find and often goes for $500-$1500 a piece.

Though I've stumbled upon a $12.95 softcover version on Amazon (sold by Amazon themselves) which apparently is printed on demand (the book is normally worth so much because it's "out of print").

no idea, doubt that amazon would sell a fake book.

That's what I was thinking, would be pretty sketchy for them to sell a rip-off version of a book which normally runs for over $1000.

I'll probably just take the risk, buy it and if the worst comes to the worst I'll have some extra toilet paper.

edit: For other Fastlane members out there, if this book happens to be legit you should jump all over it if you want to know WHY people buy - just to add some value to this thread.

It is most likely legit. People buy the hardback cause its collector and hardcore copy guys seem to also be big into first/early editions.

The reprint usually runs about $90, this must have just been put up because I was trying the buy the reprint for a couple months right up until last week when I gave up and went to the print shop and printed the PDF out and had it bound, pretty good because now I can highlight everything and not care but I would of rather had an origional copy, I just couldn't find one anywhere that would get to Australia for under $1500.

The guy who sells the $90 reprint is some copywriter who knew Eugene and bought the rights to it, and pays a royalty to his estate, so I have no idea about this $12 version, it doesn't sound right unless someone bought the rights and decided to heavily discount it but that just does not make sense when it sells out at $90. I'll buy it if they ship to Australia

Oh yeah and everyone should buy this book, it's like the need section and scale/mass impact section of the million fastlane on steroids

The publishing rights holder is Brian Kurtz.

The book is coming back for sale next week.

How do I know? Because I am in personal contact with him.

It is being re printed and will be avaible next week at $125 a copy.

I am not sure either, I know there were complaints about problems with the fake copies. What they were, I do not know.

Do you know what edition these new prints will be? I read somewhere that the later editions lost some of their original punch.

Thats fantastic....what others would you recommend that would be the other sections on steroids?

I just got it in the mail. It's legit. Weather or not it's a real copy from the original publisher? I do not know. But the content is real. Same words you'll find in the hardcover edition.

After further investigation. The orange and red paperback is a reproduction. Original content. But not the original publisher. Looks like all of the orange paperbacks on the net have been taken down in light of the book's new release. Also, the original books prices have dropped on amazon down to $330 for a used version from $1000 plus. I'm guessing the news is out and the publisher went after the people who were selling the reproduction.

I ordered it as soon as I saw this post. Got order confirmation that it would arrive 5/2. Two hours later, its not in my order history. They apparently cancelled it without notifying me. I contacted support and asked that they reinstate the order at the price advertised. A rep responded back apologizing and said there's nothing they can do about it now, but when it is available again (I'm sure it won't), to order it and they will credit me the difference so I get it for $12.95. I won't hold my breath, but I will be checking often.

The original publisher is doing a re print of this book that launches next month. They went after all of the reproductions to make sure they would sell the reprint. You wont be finding the orange cheap reproduction anymore. Almost had it XD

A previous poster just said they are re-printing it.

Once that happens, you'll be able to find a copy easily.
